Another thing, this isn't 1986, when cars were buckets of bolts with crappy safety features, no power, and terrible brakes. Modern cars, especially the powerful ones, can cruise at 105 quietly, smoothly, and in total comfort. Modern braking systems are also incredible. Ever been cruising on the interstate, look down, and see you were going 90+ without realizing it? That's modern cars for you.

The speed limit should be raised to 85 MPH - cars can now safely cruise at that speed.
If well maintained. I worry more about the idiots driving them than the cars. Also, do you really want Semis doing 85 mph? They scare me enough at 70.

MY Top Was 110mph on a Brown and Gold KH 500 2 stroke
We also used to wind it out on the old Alligator Alley...But back then there was nothing...Not even a light
Had to watch for cows and actual gators on the old 2 lane

135 on a Buell X1 between Deland and Daytona on 92. Started with 20-30 bikes at 70 mph. Someone speed up to 80 and then the whole group followed. Keep going like that until 10 of us were over 130.

LOL that's my stretch of road. Last night and tonight at Daytona they have 'Track Night in America' w/ SCCA and Tire Rack. What color is AR's Dodge? I saw some nice Chargers and Challengers. Also a fast Lambo, GTR, McLaren, and a sweet AMG Mercedes w/ a satin blue color that was just right.

When they first came out in 1971? I was toodling off a central Florida I-95 curved exit ramp in my de Tomaso Pantera just enjoying the stereo blasting. At 64 mph, on a curved exit ramp, when I just happen to look in my rearview. There, I saw a trooper, fighting like hell to not fly off the curve. To my surprise, he wasn't angry. All he wanted to do, ticket pad in hand was quiz me about the car. Panteras were somewhat rare then. I used to get in & out of commercial parking lot gates by driving under the downed arm near the distal end.

When I first got it, went to show my "2nd Mom" who loved to landscape her lawn.I parked on the grass. When I pulled off, I could see a smoldering circle-patch of dead grass. (Impressive fellow I was.) About 1.5 hours south of Jax, I put it up to 160 mph. Once, taking a 1st-time date down for a nice Sunday St. Augustine drive, I suddenly realized that I had taken a wrong exit. So I went to make a U-turn. Turns out there was a thin layer of sand on the asphalt and I was completely shocked. executing a tight one-lane "fast & furious" perfect 180 spin. 'Of course, I didn't let on I was shocked & awed. I could never get that 2nd date. Shame. She was beautiful with those big wide-open eyes.

Another date ... had a flat tire about midnight in a sketchy area near the "Gator Bowl" - pouring down rain and I couldn't loosen the lug nuts. We had to hike to a phone booth for her to call her brother to fetch us. Called the dealership next morning. They knew what to do. They dollied it in. Had to use a blowtorch to get the nuts loose. Cost me $135 to change a tire. Chose to buy a new tire. Those tires were a special lot. I think it cost close to $400?? My behavior in that car scared me enough that I sold it asap.

You really had a Pantera?

Yep, A stark blue one. Took it up to 160mph once. Narrowed it down between that and a Targa - they were both $16,000 at the time.
That's the time a hot-looking hygienist invited me over (from Jax to Ft. Lauderdale). Loved to drive that thing. So I went. She insisted that I meet her somewhat newly-wed friends. That friend was more beautiful than my date. She was interrogating me and when I caught the gist of her ploy, I blurted out: "Wait a minute.! You think I'm a player? Honey she won't let me even take the tarp off the infield." Just an aside, her husband (A Cali migrant) wrote the song "26 miles across the sea =Santa Catalina.
I think he was 15 then.?

Another true story about that car. I had a first date, with the daughter of the manager of the downtown Jax Morrison's Cafe when it was top o' the line -- short line in the carriage room. She wanted to surprise me where we were going. It was some kind of meeting.? "They kept everyone waiting outside so we could all see the host speaker could make his grand entrance. He was chauffeured in a stretch White limo. Out steps this slit-skirt blonde bombshell, long leg first. Followed by stumped off, cowboy-hatted Glenn Turner, of swindler fame.

Like a telepath's demonstration, they had casual spies mingling & gathering info. During Turner's motivation speech, he pointed to me, called my name and said something about capitalism is always right. "Since ya'll don't know how much Dr. Harrison's dental equipment costs, do not complain about how much he charges. ??

Right after the meeting, the crowd was invited for coffee across the motel parking lot. As my date and I strolled, a passel-hassle of people and tabloid photographers were snapping shots.! He was leaning with his hand on my Pantera hood as if he owned it. I brushed close by and gruffly said: "Get your slimy hand off my Pantera." He jolted.?

That girl took me to another surprise-date. It was to a local faith healer's (Dr. Guyton) demo. The Lord will probly get me for what I did there. I know my date was beet red-faced. (Sometimes that's all the joy I could salvage from these dates.)

P.S.>> Addendum to the above story on Glenn Turner's investment rally. At his talk, Turner called up the guy he "hand-picked" to run his My World PMA LIBRARIES. Turner spoke glowingly about so many years this guy worked hard for the good of his fellow man. I was near the front, so I looked him up & down closely. The next night, I was watching channel 4 news with my Dad in Blackshear, Ga when up popped this story on Jax's notorious "test drive bandit". He'd insist on taking a car out alone for a test drive. He'd then go through a bank drive-through and at gunpoint rob the teller. Well when they led him away in cuffs, I saw it was Turner's lead investor to run Our World PMA Club. Wow.! Took one night for me to jinx that criminal. I could see how Glenn Turner got prosecuted.
