I don't know enough about racing or the jock to answer that question. One thing I'm pretty sure I know is that the first quarter mile of the Preakness is going to be slower than usual. The other Jockeys and trainers are not going to let Rich Strike close like that again.

Hopefully Rich Strike will not be a one horse wonder but his other races were not impressive. Maybe he is peaking at the right time and will do great things. It’s such a great story for him and his owner that lost several horses in a barn fire in 2016.

His one other win he won by 17.5 lengths. That's pretty eye opening.

Depends on who his competition was. It was a claiming race and he was purchased for $30,000 after.

Comparatively speaking, American Pharoah’s first foal’s stud fee was $150,000 and he turned out to be a dud on the track. He lives at a neighbor’s house until they finish training him for eventing competitions.

Like so many others, I was captivated by this underdog horse. However, right after the win, I was annoyed to see so many Debbie Downers and conspiracy theorists already claiming the horse was on drugs, as if his win would be impossible otherwise. God forbid we enjoy the horse and his incredible story. We just HAD to be getting cheated somehow.

Along the same lines and around the same time I was also recently reading the YouTube comments on the trailer of an awesome Nolan Ryan documentary coming up called "Facing Nolan". Ryan had perhaps the most golden arm in the history of baseball, he's a mythical figure. In all of these decades, I had never heard the claim that only reason he could pitch so long is because he was "roided up" until I was reading these comments. There is of course not a single shred of evidence on that theory. It's ridiculous.

It's just the way a segment of the society is now.

I completely agree with you on both. Ryan and Bob Gibson are my all time favorites.

The reason for questions about Rich Strike were based solely on the fact that the horse's behavior after the race was uncharacteristic of a horse that just ran full throttle for over a mile. I am a big fan of this horse and hope his tests are clean.

The friend I referred to loves Rich Strike and his incredible story. However, his father was a trainer and owner in Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing for over 50 years and his comment was the objective observation of a veteran horseman with over 50 years of experience based on the horse's uncharacteristic behavior. That does not make him a hater. Discussing relevant questions does not make anybody a hater or lump them into "a certain segment of society". Have a coke and a smile

The pitching goat hits a hundred and it's hard to believe, yet half of the kids out of highschool throw 95 and its totally believable. Not to mention a 20 year old at Tennessee hits 104 and it's a product of the great coaching in travel ball. Get outta of here!

The bad apples ruin it for the good apples. People forget that athletic males have a natural titer-level of excitatory hormones circulating in their bloodstream that is far higher than regular ole people. Those comprise a "blessed high level" of steroid chemicals, that show up on demand & that are not supplied from outside sources. It is their physiological blessings via inherited DNA packages. Unbeknownst to the blessed, they are better at something and so they work their butts off because their inherited biochemistry better rewards their hard efforts.

Can they throw 100 for 27 seasons on unlimited pitch counts? Ryan was a freak of nature.

Not surprised at all and probably the right call.
