I took the throttle body apart so I can rebuild it. It's pretty full of gunk, so I'm letting it soak in a cleaning bath before it will go back together with new gaskets.

Pretty cool Ox. I don't go to any of the other forums so I didn't know you had this project going on until you stickied it here. Just read all 12 pages.

I'm planning on buying a convertible next year for cruising around on weekends. (Once I find out how much my son will save me on his college bill :p). I'm leaning towards a Porsche Boxter right now.

I break out in a rash just thinking about starting a project like that. Nice work though Ox!

I hear ya Mac. As much as I'd like to be I'm just not real handy or real patient. I buy my cars new or already restored......Having watched this thread tells me that perhaps Ox should have his own garage specializing in restoration.....he could call it Gator Monkey and perhaps get his own TV show..

Where was this thread hiding? Never saw it. Absolutely superior restoration job on the interior, including the after-market seats that are lightyears better than the factory crap that came with the car. I sort of skimmed the thread. What are your plans with the motor and are you looking to just enjoy the car or sell it to make a profit? I'd like to see what you come up with.

BTW, Lagoon, calling the C7 a POS shows you're not much a car guy. It's by far the best Corvette ever built and best looking one, too, IMO. There's hardly an automotive magazine that hasn't rated it car of the year in the GT class.

Thread has been in the lounge. Figured it was so slow I'd move it here. The ultimate plan is to get the car running and enjoy it. By the time I'm done with it, there really isn't going to be much of a profit left to be had.

By the way, the seats aren't really aftermarket - it's just new leather installed on new foam, identical to the original style. The foam simply clips into the existing seat backs.

I really just want to get the motor back up to stock, but it appears it's going to be a total rebuild - pretty sure there's a blown head gasket on the drivers side. I've got a mechanic who's going to be helping me out starting tomorrow. It's half torn apart right now.

I know (think) you're joking, but cracks about spending kickstarter money on a car directly question my integrity and I don't find them funny. I haven't seen a cent of that money yet, anyway.

Perhaps you should have thought this one through before sharing your Corvette restoration efforts with the people who funded your Kickstarter request. My recollection is that you stated you did not have the funds to produce some type of video presentation for GatorChatter versus just the podcast. But apparently you do have the funds to restore a car. Just sayin'...

You've apparently never owned a business. You don't mix business money with personal money. 2 seperate things. If Ox is having to fund his business with personal money he might as well shut it down.

I'm worried my 25.00 may have gone toward a new ashtray.

Okay, get back on topic. If any of the 30 podcast contributors want their money back because of this Corvette, they can have it - no questions asked. Just shoot me a PM and keep it out of this thread.

Met with a mechanic this morning at my home. We've decided to overhaul the engine, so we'll be pulling it out of the car next weekend. It's the easiest way. The heads will be sent off to the machine shop.

It will also give me a chance to clean up the filthy engine bay with the motor out of it.

I bought a short block for my 89 a couple of years ago. For the money they are a deal and are exactly what came stock.

Just a thought, go for the fastburn heads instead of the 113s and buy a vortec base from scoggin and that baby will scream. Sell the old 113s.

Short block may be be better and save money in the long run. Just something to consider due to labor.

C'mon '78, I was speaking only to sleekness.
I'm definitely not a car magazine guy, but have had a few cranks turned.

Hmmm, seems like good advice to me....Just don't go with a 2 bolt main block. If he keeps the car and decides to supercharge it he'll spray the asphalt with hot metal sooner than later.
