Worked on the car all weekend. New heads are off to the machine shop this morning. I shifted gears (yet again) and are going to stay with the original bottom end, which I think is in good shape.

Replaced the stock timing chain with a double-roller. Sanded and repainted the timing cover (black), and replaced the seal. Sanded the surface rust off the headers and painted them with super high temperature header paint (black). Dropped the oil pan, cleaned it up, and painted it.....Chevy orange. The block is being painted Chevy orange over the next two days.

Also cleaned up and painted the intake manifold black. Replaced the rear main seal.

I'll get some pictures up tonight. Tons of work still to do.

Here, I do have one pic of the oil pan. 3 coats of primer, 3 coats of paint, 3 coats of clear.

Damn that's a big oil pan! How many quarts does that thing hold?!

[edit: nevermind, a quick Google search shows 4.5 quarts. That's way less than I'd imagine based on the size of that pan.]

Well, the machine shop hasn't called yet to tell me otherwise. A good sign!

If the heads are ok why not have the machine shop port them? Have you decided on a new cam? Not much sounds sweeter than a cammed Vette.

You do good work, Ox. Good choice on the bottom end since you have driven it and listened to it.

I have a black polo with one on the chest pocket area. And one of my cycling jerseys is a bright yellow gadsden flag design. I get a lot of looks when I zip by in that thing.

Tranny was rebuilt less than 5,000 miles ago. Not worried about it.
