The violin puts you in that era. I visited Gettysburg years ago & it overwhelms you with its pathos.......so much death valor & fear

On of the interesting thing about Gettsyburg is that is houses memorials and such from both sides of the war.

How long will it be until the pc police demand that those memorials to southern forces be jackhammered into dust Taliban style?

Helps to be on the winning side.
Otherwise you get put on the dock at Nuremberg and hanged.

In your opinion were they just poor misunderstood soldiers?

I see this stated a lot. Yes, there was slavery under the USA flag. There was also the abolition of slavery, something that never happened and was never considered by the CSA.

This is not true. The Confederate Congress did introduce a bill for the abolition of slavery over a 5 year phase out. Not a fact that is well known nor is it ever mentioned b/c it isn't consistent with the adopted narrative.

Quick side note (not to throw a turd in the proverbial punchbowl) but the song behind that letter video (Ashokan Farewell) was written in 1982.

Neither was enslaving the Chinese to build their railroads.

Haven't ever been able to see it. I get an error.

An internal error has occurred and the module cannot be displayed.

I had a post on page 2 that has been lost forever.

What I said on that page in response to the top quote is that the Confederate Congress proposed a bill that would phase out slavery over a 5 year period. This fact is not well known and is rarely reported as it doesn't fit the favored historical narrative of the war. I'm not surprised the poster didn't know about it.
