I talked about this kid in the other QB thread. I was pretty certain he was going to commit after getting an offer at FNL. There's a reason that he's a 2 star. And it's because of limited opportunity.

I know it seems crazy, but we could probably take 40 kids if we could figure out how to get around the one year limit. We are that low on scholarship players. I don't see it as a big deal, but I know Tag is going to have a few more sleepless nights.

We need depth at the QB position so I am all for getting this kid. Manvel’s spread offense, which isn’t a fit for the 6-foot-5, 218-pound Trask. In limited action last year, Trask completed 70 percent of his pass attempts for 786 yards and six touchdowns with no picks. Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier evaluated Trask twice during the spring evaluation period. He then camped at UF in June and returned Friday to throw for Nussmeier and coach Jim McElwain. “They like my size, my arm strength and my ability to throw the ball,” Trask said. “They also think I have the mental toughness it takes to play at Florida.” A Sun recruiting source — who played in the ACC and coached high school football for several years — pointed out a camper wearing No. 351 at FNL. He did not know who the player was, but called him “deadly accurate.” “I wore 351,” Trask said Sunday. Nussmeier told Trask UF plans to sign two quarterbacks in the 2016 class, which currently has 18 members. The Gators also have a commitment from Jake Allen, the top-ranked QB in the state of Florida for 2017. “I’m not afraid of competition,” Trask said. “Look where I play now.”

We beat out Houston Baptist for him.

So now we're relegated to bragging about beating out religious schools on the recruiting trail?

Wow. All you have to do now is be tall and throw the ball accurately at fnl and you have an offer. This is just sad. I don't care about stars but I do care that he can't even win the starting job at his highschool. Couldn't we just use his tuition towards facility upgrades?

5 yrs of losing will do that to a fan base.

Can you imagine us applauding over beating out a Baptist school for a 2-star quarterback back when Meyer was coach? God bless McElwain if he can turn this all around.

I'm confused on one thing. Is this kid going to be the backup this year too? If he's going to be the starter this year and we are getting in ahead of the program, it's genius. But if this dude is a perennial backup, then this is a re-re move. He will never have competed in a game situation. I get that we have Grier who is a RFR, and I get that we have Allen who is going to be a 5* in '17. Pulling a big-time recruit in '16 would be difficult, but I can't imagine we can't lure a three star out of some Florida school who is considering us or ACC schools ...

Kid needs to transfer to a HS that fits his pro-style this year for everyone's sake unless he's the second coming of Matt Cassell - and that hasn't worked out too well.

We're still looking at bringing in another QB this cycle.

The teams at the top in the recruiting rankings are usually the teams that are in the hunt during the season. So we need the 4-5 stars. That being said, it is clear this kid has talent. Maybe coach Mac can do something with him.

It still doesn't make this move look any better. We need to bring in 2 decent qbs in this class.

Not worried. We need the depth at QB and this kid will fit the bill. At least Mac is going after offensive talent. The last guy didn't recruit anything but DB's.

No. He's a spread QB and is projected to play WR at the next level.
So now you're saying we offered a 2 star backup who can't beat out a guy that's going to be a WR? Oh Lord!
