If we're reaching on a qb this early, why wouldn't we offer that rex Culpepper kid? Hes a 3 star with multiple d1 offers , i believe he's a gator legacy and the best part is he actually starts on his highschool team. He's committed to Syracuse but he was looking for a Florida at one point.

This is kind of like the Andrew Boselli deal. 3 star lineman but son of NFL great Tony Boselli. He's an hour and a half from the UF campus but recently committed to FSU. Tony would go on the radio all last year and get asked why his son had no interest in UF and Tony would just say "they've never offered". I guess we're good at online :dunno:

Maybe he's not as good?

You've never evaluated either. The coaches have. Who's likely to be the better judge?

How about the all the other division1 coaches who offered the Culpepper kid or the scouting services who rated him higher? They're probably a better judge than me too

It's like Parcells said..."If I'm going to be asked to cook the meal, I'd like to be able to pick the groceries."

My sentiments exactly, Rog. I know that as a man of faith you appreciate the symbolic prayer gesture after a TD. Glad to see this kid is a devout christian and the son of a preacher. Does anyone else remember the last son of a preacher we had on our team? He ended up winning the Heisman Trophy, a national championship, and went on to represent his University and his faith well.

If you guessed, CAM NEWTON, from my clues, you are correct. Great QB, but even more important a great kid. If this kid ends up being half the QB and young man that Newton ended up being, we have a lot to look forward to.

Uslydog PS, I was thinking Danny. Cam's hands criss-crossed to toss a laptop out the window. Yes he's seemed to learn the
correct lesson and comports himself well thereafter.

Well, I think we can all agree that God is the best judge. But second to that the only way you can figure out whether a kid is worthy of a scholarship is by knowing his family, having fellowship with his parents and knowing how they worship. Nusswigger did just that and now it's paying off for us. The kid has been a straight arrow all his life, goes to the right church and has Hobby Lobby connections. He deserves a scholarship and he will be a perfect Gator!

I didn't evaluate. I'd say he's not as good as Franks and other 4 and 5 star QBs. But maybe he's better than the other 3 star and low end 4 stars they evaluated. I don't know.

I'm don't know the kid and don't know if he is good or not. I do pause when talent evaluation is mixed with personal feeling and community. When you are talking about family and personal feelings towards a family your objective ability to evaluate is tainted. If Nuss is the only one evaluating, I do question the evaluation. Not saying Nuss is a bad guy or anything of that nature, but he is human. One bad example of this is Cam Cameron Head Coach of the Dolphins who drafted Ted Ginn Hr. really high because he had know him and his family and Ginn for a long time. This isn't a knock on Church or any of that. Just an observation that personal emotions and objective evaluations do not go together. If other coaches without that personal connection, saw the same things for more than a few days and agree this isn't an issue.

I don't think religion had anything to do with it. I think a bunch of people were just joking about it. You know... Because our best ones have been preacher sons…

We still offered a back up 2 star QB. Let's not lose focus people.

Yep, let us get back to bitching about the Gators. We haven't done enough of that lately.

We had a 6'6" guy, Provanca, that never set foot on the field …. that's not enough. To the coaches this kid must be
"the thrill of the gamble" on wise coaches' instincts. Rarely works out.

In all seriousness, the kid has played behind a four-star QB with phenomenal numbers who threw 47 TDs and only 3 interceptions last season alone. Pretty hard to unseat someone with that kind of talent. That kid is headed to TCU in 2016, but is probably too small to be a college QB. I guess it's possible to have two very good college-rated QBs on one high school roster. In any case that HS team is one we need a pipeline to. It is absolutely LOADED with talent and has been for awhile.

At least I can buy into the pipeline idea. That makes sense somewhat. Maybew there are other kids on that roster we want? Who knows but it is a head scratcher no matter how you rationalize it.

Seems like we've been making excuses for moves for way too long.

I knew if I waited a day this would be spun as some kind of outstanding recruiting coup.

By the end of the week, he will be the first high school backup ever to earn 5 stars.

Yes, we've had some amazing QB's who were Preacher's sons.

1) SOS : First ever Heisman winner for UF. National champion coach

2) Danny: Heisman Trophy winner and National champion

3) Tebow: Heisman Trophy winner, two time national champion, Superman wore Tim Tebow pajamas.

4) * Cam Newton: Signed with Florida, got in trouble. Eventual Heisman Trophy winner and National champion while wearing the wrong shade of orange and blue at Auburn
