It's okay to take a chance on an unknown prospect when the rest of the class is 4 and 5 stars like Meyer's were. Right now McElwains class has more 0 - 3 stars than we've ever had, Even Muschamp after going 4-8 signed fewer 0-3 stars than McElwain. That's my concern. I don't care how good a coach McElwain is, he's not going to be competitive in the SEC with a roster full of mediocre players when everyone else is loaded with blue chippers.

Don't you attribute this to where we are right now? I certainly can't blame the current staff, as it seems like they've worked tirelessly to fill the gaping holes they inherited. I think kids just wanna see what we do, as we've been pretty unimpressive the past 5 years. That's why I don't get the pissing and moaning by a lot of you. What else do you want the staff to do?

How is this? This is all Gator Lore 101. Spurrier brought it up about Wuerfell and himself on a regular basis, including before the 1996 National Title game about how he was old testament and Danny was New testament. The media couldn't stop talking about how Tebow was a preacher son, that was 50% of the narrative.
My original point was about Cam Newton being a great QB and a preacher's son, not the other three. But based on what you said I did a little research and you are correct, Spurrier was a preacher's son. What's more, his father was a pastor in Tennessee, just like Kyle's dad was at one point. Eerily similar if you ask me. Here is a picture of the Trask family, Pastor Philip Trask is in the middle. It's an old picture of Kyle, he looks like a downy with a Mohawk.

Great post. If I could like it 100 times I would. I'm surprised people aren't blaming Meyer for it all still.

Didn't know that was still an option. I'm sure someone will blame him shortly (then be banned by Ox).

To me that's an excuse. UF sits in the middle of the most fertile recruiting area in the country. If it's simply because we've been down for a few years then you have to tell me why teams/coaches like Tennessee, Mississippi, Penn State, Michigan, Kentucky, hell even Duke (depending on recruiting site)are recruiting better or on par with McElwain right now. Most of these teams have been sorry for years, are in terrible recruiting areas and have brand new or fairly new coaching staffs (except Duke).

We have 14-15 3 star or lower recruits out of 18 total. That's more than we've ever had since the recruiting rankings started. I keep hearing, "we've got pleny of room to add the big names", etc... But at 18 committed right now we might get 12 more recruits. And I just don't see anything that show''s me that this staff is going to change their trend of taking lower rated players. You can say its going to happen but there's no proof it will. This staff might be great coaches. But I don't think they are very good recruiters. Hope I'm wrong.

There's no proof it won't, especially with someone who can push the UF brand to in-state kids like they haven't experienced in recent years (which allowed TN, KY, PSU, Duke, et al to come in and steal kids). A prime example is recruit awareness and excitement about FNL this year compared to all of WM's years. All we can take as an indicator of this staff's ability to close the deal on key recruits is what they did in the span of 2-ish months with our '15 class. I'll take some hope from that, and have patience on what may come.

He didn't close crap in '15. Those 5 star kids were coming to UF no matter what. He lost Cowart.

So, we should fire them all before they ever coach a game? Again, WTF else do you expect them to do? Are you an advocate of paying players to come here? We could always set up a slush fund here on GCMB and get some dumbass to be the bagman. You interested?

Of course they will. And the 4 and 5 stars signed by Clowns, Trailerbammer and Crackumbus State will all lose a star.

All our kids are just underrated. We DID want them anyway.

Unless they leave us for USF, Syracuse, or Purdue again.

I really don't care who our competition signs, recruiting is all about filling needs and player development to me.

You don't care who the competition signs? :rotfl: I hope all our competition signs 2-3 stars and HS backups.

The good news is we are stacking up well against Kintucky. We will continue to be an underdog the next two years but I'm guessing we will be a pickem in 2017.

Oh, I will this weekend. Just won't type in a credit card on a phone.

I have plenty of profit left over from my like selling venture.

So, let me ask you, out of all the preacher's kids in the US, what percentage went on to become Heisman QBs?
I think you are confused, we are not talking about all preacher's sons, only the ones who played QB at Florida. Perhaps you never took an applied logic class at UF. Let me help you with this illustration:

"Everyone who is anyone attended the gala charity ball.
I did not attend.
Therefore I am nobody.

Applying the logic thusly to our QB recruit and we have:

"Every QB who was a preacher's son a Florida won a Heisman trophy.
Kyle Trask is a preacher's son.
Therefore Kyle Trask will win a Heisman Trophy."

Hope that helps.
