What does George Goebbel have to do with it? My "cynicism" question was aimed more at society in general rather than Gatordom specifically, but OK. Still, I'd argue that going from the truly unimaginable train wreck of last year's season - highlighted by Vandy and GSU - to a Goebbels-esque propaganda event with a couple of charming Gator-geezers is a stretch. Dare I say a cynical one at that.

You're not normally this dumb. An as*hole, yes, but not a f*cking moron.

I guess I just don't understand why you would be so bent out of shape over a question about how they shot this commercial. There are two likely scenarios here:

Scenario A - They set up the event with some bogus story about what they were doing and then had muschamp show up at the house so they could capture the actual surprise.

Scenario B - They just showed up and surprised the heck out of them and then asked politely if they could reenact it to capture it for the commercial.

Regardless of whether it was one of these or some slight variant, it is obviously a commercial to market season tickets. Why does this make you angry?

When did we all get so cynical?

And, everyone else friggin' relax.

It IS a warming story and the couple IS adorable. That wasn't the point. I was attempting, obviously not very successfully, to point to the contrast between this PR attempt and the way it used to be. Can you imagine Spurrier or Meyer being asked to show up at someone's front door to hand deliver freaking tickets? Even the Zooker?

Although I maybe could imagine Zook with a mop and a pail ready to do their floors.

Ox, I ask you: is there anything Muschamp can do to create a favorable impression as an HC in your eyes?
Absolutely, win a championship. Start with the SEC. Winning cures all.

Maybe not you specifically, but there are some out there that will not accept him even if he goes 45-0 with 3 NCs over the next 3 seasons.
I don't believe that at all. Muschamp still can win everyone over, but he's got one hell of an uphill battle after the hole he dug himself.

Although I maybe could imagine Zook with a mop and a pail ready to do their floors.[/quote]SOS bleeds O&B. I could absolutely see him enjoying some (brief) time with true blue Gator fans like that couple. Especially now that he's aged a bit and mellowed some. They could reminisce, share common stories and their passion for the Gators.

Meyer, not so much. Meyer is evil.

This is absolutely spot on. I bet even Law cheers up if we start crushing people. Sure there would still be legitimate questions posed about life after Roper given Muschamp's track record with hiring assistants, but in general folks would be pretty happy.

Because unless that woman is the most gifted 70+ year old actress in history, it's pretty obvious she was genuinely surprised. 78's reasoning is where the dumbass part comes from.

"How did they have a camera set up behind her at the door?"

Dumbsh*t, the cameraman who was filming their interview got up and walked his ass to the door behind her! There was even a cut in the footage that makes it even more obvious!

I mean, this kind of douchebaggery is par for the course for 78, but I refuse to believe that he couldn't figure out simple film production.

Fair enough and rather what I thought you'd say.

Still, I firmly believe there are some posters here for whom the hole Muschamp has dug is completely inescapable; those that believe his lack of HC experience coupled with his Humper background were fatal flaws from the get-go. For those guys, there's nothing he can do to win them over.

I think your personal problems with '78 go deeper than the rest of us know. I'm sure you can take your hostility with him to PM's.

I think you are right in that it was something similar to scenario A and it probably wasn't a reenactment. Also agree that the camera being in the room doesn't prove anything either way.

But really? You don't think you may have overreacted just a little? Has '78 really gotten under your skin that badly?

I still disagree with this. There are plenty that simply think he can't coach, and we're only postponing the inevitable. However, if he starts to win and win big, no one is going to be able to say that anymore. I'm telling you, the people that don't like him now aren't going to still dislike him if we're hoisting trophies. Everyone is still on the same side here - we just want to win.

I've always been honest - I just don't think he's head coach material, at least in this point of his career. However, I've been wrong many times before and could certainly be wrong again. Time will tell.

I wasn't even sold on Meyer until we beat OSU for NC. I'm pretty slow to accept head coaches in general.

If he produces a 6+ year run of sustained success averaging 10+ wins a year and winning at least a couple of championships (SEC or national) while weathering turnover within his coaching staff every non-rival poster on this board will buy in. Even the most negative. And I'm sure they wouldn't be happier to eat crow.

Fair enough - hard to quibble with your logic.

For the psychological well-being of some here, I hope you're right! hahahahaha

You know, to be one of the "sunshine pumpers", you sure are an angry SOB. Can't you have a civil conversation without the personal attacks? Grow the f*ck up or stick to reading the newspaper.
