Horrible contract by a supposed genius AD. This is contract 101 stuff. List of worst dead money contracts. [h=3]9. Will Muschamp, Florida, $6 million[/h]

Athletic directors usually put in a contract provision preventing a coach from double dipping at another job if he is fired. Florida's Jeremy Foley is an experienced athletic director but somehow didn't use such a provision when Muschamp was hired to take over the Gators starting in 2011. When Florida fired him after last season, Muschamp got to pocket the full $6 million remaining on his deal and then double dipped by becoming the highest-paid defensive coordinator in the SEC at Auburn ($2.1 million a year). What does Florida get for giving Muschamp a sweetheart deal? Muschamp got the biggest recruit in the country, Byron Cowart, to choose Auburn over Florida. Yikes.

No way any person should be paid more for the job he's not working at than the one he is ?
Worth it all to get rid of him.

As far as I'm concerned, the way Foley "structured" that contract was much more egregious than actually hiring Muschamp in the first place. Hiring Muschamp was a reasonable call even though it didn't pan out. Giving away millions in a way that was completely preventable is just stupid and incompetent. The idea that colleges have to negotiate contracts from a position of weakness is total bulls!t. Until college ADs smarten up they will continue to waste tens of millions of dollars on bad coaches.

Exactly my point! I do love to loathe everything Muschimp but the utter stupidity in this contract is beyond a rookie mistake by the AD and where were the army of lawyers that should have reviewed that and made sure the clause was included? They couldn't have been that desperate for Muschimp that they would have knowingly foregone this.

Just imagine, he could've easily been the HC at USCe next year. But Will was greedy and took the AU job. With their performance this year, he'll be lucky to get a decent job at all once he's gotten himself and Malzahn fired.

There's a lot of potential for a future AD at the University of Florida in this here thread.

He was offered the coach in waiting at USCe. This crap year would've been on SOS and Muschamp would've stepped right in.
