(1) Turn speakers/sound to Off.

You can use ABP to block them, that way those that like them can still have them. If you are using Chrome, Click on the ABP symbol in the bar at the top. Choose "block element". Move your mouse over the bells until you see a yellow outline of all of them. Then click that yellow outline. Done. In IE its a little more work...
