Not so sure about Appleby. But Trask has been a pleasant surprise. I trust that Mac knows how to pick a QB

Not sure about Appleby either. His tape wasn't too bad if you ignored the interceptions and he is strong and can run some. Maybe Mac can coach him up good.

It all comes down the QB's. If they suck, we suck, no matter how great the WR's are.

No Treon at QB = Automatic 100% improvement before the first snap of the season.

Would be fun to see a downtrodden sec school (say Miss State) run a wishbone or single wing.

Johnson has been masterful with it at GT, with their somewhat tougher academic standards. You can recruit specific types of skill players and linemen to run said offense. The one thing about it is that it is an absolute pain in the ass to prep for in just a week of practice.

4.53. Fast, but not 4.4. Throw me another when you get time. By no means is it routine if it's ever even happened.
So you're saying that there are no safety's or LBer's who run 4.4-4.5??? My point is that with todays modern defenses either a safety or LBer is coming to the QB on just about any pass play. Go back and watch the Bama and FSU games from last year. Treon was sacked about 50 times in those 2 games by LBers and safety's. Also watch the FSU game when Derwin James routinely lined up at the los and BEAT our OL with both his speed AND power. My point to Rog is QB's like Danny never saw sh!t like that.....Even guys like Clowney with his paltry 4.53 speed have changed the way offenses play in the last 10 years.

You're right though crete, the game has changed. It's now illegal to tackle.

If you could get a time machine and bring that 96 team into the present, I can't even imagine how many points they would score under today's rules.

I agree, but we need improvement on the OL to give our QB a chance. Anyway, I gotta believe all 4 QBs are an upgrade from what we saw in the second half of last season.
Almost objected to this bc the 4 QBs include 2 true FR, but u are absolutely right. Our 4th string QB wld be better than 2d half of last year. That kind of statement would usually be hyperbole, but it's 100% true.

Yup none under 6'3" that I can think of....

Yep. Going back 30 years, I only found 3 quarterbacks under 6'2 (Leak, Danny, Heupel) that have won national championships. There were 3 others that were in the 6'0-'6'2 area if I remember correctly but I couldn't find any height listings for them. They were all quarterbacks in option offenses so height was much less of a factor. Height clearly matters. It matters less in college, but it does matter. Del Rio is going to have the same problem Treon did since our starting linemen are all 6'4 or taller unless one of the redshirt freshman get in the mix (Buchanan is 6'2 and Sandifer is 6'3).

JFC guys. You've got Mauck, Flynn, Leak and McElroy just in the last 15 years.

And if the offensive linemen are standing up straight they'll be on their backs a half second later.

Are we really discussing NC's at this point, anyway? Let's just settle for being a decent offense first. It's been a long time.

Decent offense? What is that? :) In all seriousness though, what would we consider decent? 200 yards passing, 200 rushing? Is it a points thing (say 30 a game?) Or is it just passing the eye test of being competent out there and not having all us couch-coaches being able to name the play before the snap?

Seriously. Let's just be in the top 90 in offensive statistics for a start.

Look it's fun to look back but that's just nonsense. This years Bama team would have taken that 96 team behind the woodshed 56-3, or any other team that has won a NC in the last 10 years for that matter...bigger, faster, stronger , it is what it is.
