I guess I'm a little confused. Why would someone spend months restoring an older corvette to finally get it completed and then turn around and buy a new one? Just doesn't make sense to me.

Some people are just project junkies. Always have to have something in the garage to tinker with.

The newer one (it's a 2008) is a daily driver. The older one is just a toy, nostalgic goodness, as well as being a "learning car". I learned one hell of a lot taking that car apart. Eventually I'll get rid of it for another project.

This picture looks an awful lot like the first one only taken from the other side

Okay, after the car sitting for a bit, I am continuing the restoration. Part of it was sparked with my fascination with plasti-dip, and all the new things you can do. As an introduction into the plasti-dip seedy underworld, I decided to dip my rims.

Now, they are C6 Corvette rims, but they were never in great shape. Scratches, scuffs, all kind of crap that needs to be covered up. Plasti-dip to the rescue! Now keep in mind the dip can be peeled off at any time - it is not permanent.

Here's what I started with:

Here's after 5 coats of a black base:

Here's after 2 coats of the metalizer, which gives it a dark graphite appearance instead of black:

Pretty cool. The scratches are still prominent, but I could always re-do the wheel after filling them next time.

For you people out there, this plasti-dip stuff is great. There are tons of colors, it's durable, it completely protects what's underneath it, and can be peeled off at any time. With proper care, it can last years. Do you have a set of rims and want to change colors? It's less than $50 in material.

Speaking of which, the paint job on this car is crap.....plasti-dip the whole car.....? :suspect:

Looks like you're doing this work in your living room. Where did you move the rabbit hutches to?

i plasti dipped the bowties on my ride and the wheels on my boat trailer. pretty good stuff. I'd advise against doing the whole car.

I decided I needed more garage space so I removed a wall and drove the car into what was formerly the living room. My wife wasn't particularly happy.
