David Gilmour's voice is so smooth it makes silk seem like sandpaper.

Meanwhile, here's the song Andrew Lloyd Webber ripped off for the theme to Phantom of the Opera.

Never knew that...but now that I hear it ... holy sh*t.
I wondered why there was no lawsuit ...and then I saw this:

Roger Waters has repeatedly claimed in interviews that the signature descending/ascending half-tone chord progression from Phantom's title song was plagiarised from the bass line of a track on the 1971 Pink Floyd album Meddle called "Echoes." He has never taken any legal action. "Life's too long to bother with suing Andrew f*cking Lloyd Webber," he said. "I think that might make me really gloomy"

Yeah, Andrew Lloyd Webber is notorious for having "borrowed" quite a few pieces of music for his productions. But in total fairness, lots and lots of musicians rip each other off in one fashion or another, and Webber still makes some phenomenal productions.

But yeah, Echoes is holy balls good.

I'm a big fan of Wish You Were Here (1975) - a 5 song album. Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V), Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar, Wish You Were Here, and Shine (Part Two).
But I came across 'Obscured by Clouds' maybe 20 years ago and really fell in love with it. It's the soundtrack for a movie called 'The Valley' (1972). Sandwiched between Meddle (71) and Dark Side (73).

Wish You Were Here is an incredible album. Most of it was for Syd from what I understand. My favorites:
1. Comfortably Numb
2. Time
3. Goodbye Blue Sky
4. Wish You were Here
5. Welcome to the Machine (that song will take any 'Pink Floyd Experience' to 11  )

Speaking of songs ripped off from Pink Floyd, Metallica's "Fade to Black" (one of their best ever and an absolutely legendary metal song) is basically the exact acoustic guitar riff from portions of Goodbye Blue Sky.

I like your top 5, although I wouldn't have Goodbye Blue Sky or Machine in there. Toss in Great Gig in the Sky and Dogs for me. Comfortably Numb definitely #1 in my book, and one of the best rock songs ever.

Goodbye Blue Sky was a definite where I was and how that affected me the first time I actually gave it a good listen. Music in a nutshell. Hey You and Learning to Fly are also way up there

Yeah, but it's not so much the progression but the phrasing. Many progressions are common, and some of the more "inventive" ones have been used in old jazz music of which most non-musicians are unfamiliar.

Anyway, I saw Roger Waters in Chicago (1999 I think) and that was a phenomenal show. Sounded even better than the record. The only way it could have been better is if Claire Torry were there to sing "Great Gig in the Sky."

Speaking of Clare Torry, here's a great interview with her about her process in recording the vocals for Great Gig in the Sky. The simplicity of the process makes it so much more legendary. Two takes, and that was it.

Any of you guys ever hear of Brit Floyd? They're an outstanding tribute band, and about as close to the real thing as you can get.

Saw them a couple of years ago... the optics were good, but the sound was awful... hard thing to do at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

Wait a few days before the show, that is what we did... our tickets were $25 each.
Ah you know I just went back and looked and they have lower priced tickets. For some reason, whatever I looked at the other day said they were all $110. Might have been looking at some special package or something. Wouldn't be able to go because of work anyway.

if it is a show you are on the fence about at Ruth Eckard wait a week before the show. Chris Cornell was $27 3 days before, and I saw the Doobie Brothers for 20, and a few others from 20-30 dollars.

Dude... You are a Dancing Queen

So keep this next video between you and me - because I may lose my Man Card over this one, but I did enjoy this song from the movie:
