How long would it be before you were comfortable telling the world you were ass raped as a child?

Well, I suspect some people might even fantasize or imagine something like that if enough money was waved in front of them. But, in any event, this thread is about the new unsubstantiated smears of Joe Paterno. If something happened and you were going to report it, you would tell someone in law enforcement not wait some 40 years and claim you told a football coach who conveniently happens to be long dead.

Does anyone really need to make stuff up to 'smear' JoePa at this point? We know that he was alerted to this crap at least as early as the mid-80s.. and did nothing about it. Sorry -- that's not a smear, that's just showing his true colors.

Unsubstantiated? Seriously? The guy ignored all the warnings and warning signs of years of serial child abuse. Joe Pa enabled that POS from the 70's on.

The claims from the 1970s which surfaced recently are totally unsubstantiated and defy common sense. When you are the victim of a sexual assault, you notify law enforcement not some random college coach. And why wait over 4 years after the person you claimed you told has died -- to make sure he's not going to return from the dead and challenge the story from 40 years ago?

In terms of facts, Paterno was told of a single vague allegation and he turned that information over through his management chain as he would have been expected to do.

The fact is that PSU and all involved are all disgusting trash for human beings including Paterno. They fostered that environment. Filth. Human garbage. I'm sure Joepa is slow roasting in hell. He'll be joined by a whole lot more of PSU faithful.

It would not surprise me one bit if these claims and the cover-up went all the way to the police not wanting the program damaged. Reminds me of the Catholic church scandal.

Sad situation all around.

I do not understand folks. At this time in my life I would think I would do what it took to get that guy away from my program.

So, you don't really care if the claims are actually true.

But the claims from the 80s ARE substantiated... please address that part. He wasn't told of vague allegations once - it was brought to him several times over a 20 year period.

I believe these allegations, every one of them. I can't even imagine the shame of coming forward and disclosing you were raped by another male. As much as Penn State supporters don't want to admit it, they're unable to reconcile the Paterno they loved and admired with the callous, self-absorbed individual who put winning above all else.

I was reading about how there are probably a lot more kids out there that have not come forward because Sandusky was most likely active from the 70's through till he was finally stopped. It's not something that just starts out of the blue. I think JoePa didn't want to know. Deep down inside he knew something was wrong but for whatever reason he let it go on. At some point, they realized that it would cause a major issue so they buried it. Why didn't they keep him from children is the bigger question?

This is just crazy - PSU fan are in total denial still....
Tre Manning ·
Sr. Operations Analyst at Bank of America
A) What would PSU deserve the death penalty for B) The death penalty you're talking about I assume is about athletics which makes even less sense for you to whine about that right now C) Just curious why would he allow a 2nd year LB coach to molest boys and do nothing about it logically speaking i'd love to hear the reasoning D) showering with a boy no matter how weird disgusting crazy etc ... is also still not illegal

The last part is just sickening.

Someone needs to put a bullet in that ****ers ear hole.

PSU payouts to Jerry Sandusky's accusers cover alleged abuse to '71.

Sandusky graduated from Penn State in 1965 and returned as a full-time defensive coach in 1969.

The university has paid out more than $90 million to settle more than 30 civil claims involving Sandusky, now 72 and serving a lengthy prison sentence for the sexual abuse of 10 children. The trial involved only allegations dating back to the mid-1990s.

The settlements, including the one covering the 1971 allegation, were reached after Sandusky's 2012 conviction. But few details have been provided on the payouts by either the school or lawyers for those who said Sandusky victimized them.

Pennsylvania code hotline = 1-800-982-0313. This # is mailed every year to mandated reporters.
It contains stickers of this # to stick on phone, bulletin board, desk etc.

Child Protective Services are so serious that one is to report abuse even when one has suspicion
about a victim 18 and older molested in younger years, statute of limitation passed. Obviously because
pedophiles continue the behavior, so are likely to be currently molesting children.

The point should always be about protecting the children.
Let's note the fact that Sandusky (and others) kept this secret for over 20 years.
Target children were poor kids missing a father figure. They never tell, report.
All 50 state's child protection laws are very demanding of mandated reporters, crimes are attached.
Even people who watch kids too young to be in the church congregation are expected to report suspicions.

Failure to report first suspicion in later discovered case carries punishment of 1 year in prison ...
... 2nd case yields 2 year prison sentence. So those who could report (even rumor or suspicion) who
take it lightly risk criminal conviction.

The law gives immunity to reporters of cases that turn out no molestation = no civil law suits allowed.
Repeat, child sexual molestation is so difficult to come to light, perpetrators get away with it for years --
-- thousands of molestation events undisclosed (365 days/y x 10,20,30 years) for whatever % of days
per year the pervert wishes.

Not to mention that those molested in youth turn in higher % of drug abuse, prostitution, and suicides.
