Florida: Co-coordinator / linebackers coach Randy Shannon has been promoted to defensive coordinator. Shannon has spent two years at Florida as was promoted to the interim role when Geoff Collins left for Temple. Shannon was Miami’s defensive coordinator from 2001-05 and its head coach from 2007-10. He also coached at TCU and Arkansas before joining Florida.

@FootballScoop: Randy Shannon’s promotion to DC is now official at Florida

http://FootballScoop.com/The-Scoop

@ZachAbolverdi: Florida's Randy Shannon promoted to defensive coordinator http://sec.news/2jjlV7g

@AndrewSpiveyGC: BREAKING: The Florida #Gators have named Randy Shannon as the new defensive coordinator.

@BarrettSallee: Florida announces Randy Shannon has been promoted to defensive coordinator

@GatorsScott: Shannon’s audition, if you want to call it that, went well Monday. #Gators allowed only 3 points, fewest ever given up in their 43 bowls.

@CoachMcElwain: A great coach, mentor and friend. Really happy to have Randy as our Defensive Coordinator! #GoGators

It'll be Interesting to see how (or even if) commits and targets react on twitter.

I like the hire from an X's and O's and coach'em up standpoint. Hopefully the DC title also adds some persuasiveness to his recruiting pitch.

I always thought he was a decent DC. He's had a lot of NFL talent though to work with in the past. Iowa's Big Ten offense was pretty bad so I'm not sure that was a good litmus test. Next year will be a challenge.

He was more aggressive in the bowl game than sidehat ever was and we didnt have our starters. I wonder if sidehat would have still been here if we could have held them to 3 pts. I think its the best move and hopefully we wont have to scratch our heads at goofy coverage calls at the wrong time like we have been.

Shannon has always been aggressive so hopefully no more of that candyazzed soft zone, let them go from 20 to 20 with ease crapola. Pumped about this!

Wish I understood why this took so long.
It was because he was offered by 10 other schools and Mac realized last minute he was a good D coordinator and we had an open spot on our roster so he gave him an offer...really came down to us and Bama

That's kinda what I thought but didn't want to go out on a limb and come right out and say it.
