I have been a forum administrator for several years and I can assure you that your not going to ever make everyone happy. People come and they go. Dont sweat it.
Great point....The only one who can make someone happy is themselves. You either find a way to be happy here....or you stop coming here.
If you let someone on a message board ruin your interactions with other posters then I don't know what to tell you other than good luck in life.... I used to get clubbed like a baby seal on this board and still do from time to time because I say something that I feel strongly about....so what? I expect to hear about it if I'm wrong and even try to have a little fun with it.....If you send out a strong message then you better be ready to receive a strong message back , that's all. This board is a place to come and relax and learn a few things while having fun.......So have some fun.

Here is the exact PM:

Subject:
Please deactivate and delete my account

Its not you, its me. I haven't been visiting here the last several months and don't see myself coming back. I have thick skin. I grew up with five older brothers and sisters. But enough is enough. Really, it boils down to the fact that I can't stand Gator fans talking so much crap about our teams and especially coaches. The vibe around here makes it feel like a Warchant sub-forum titled "Gator Hate". If I wanted to read all this negative crap I'd go read Warchant or Volnation. I don't. So, its been a good ride. Good luck to continued growth on your website.
Deactivate and delete my account....sounds like a cry for help or attention to me...

Don't change anything Ox. As long as people are not personally attacked or threatened, then there should be no censorship. I left the Gainesville Slime board when they would not let me call him "Fooley" The only thing I do not like about all message boards are often times most people infer things from a post that often times are completely incorrect. Instead of asking the poster what they meant they just assume they know. I speak from personal experience, b/c I often criticize and also say things I would do, and am often met with incorrect inference and/or the obligatory "sure what have you ever coached, etc"? Well many of us have coached or we view things in a different way. Take the time to ask before assailing others. Otherwise no censorship at all!!!!!!

I hope you guys read this. Next time he says Mike white sucks and has no idea how to run an offense against a zone defense, just ask him what he means by that.

Remember when I said you needed a cranial enema because you had sh!t for brains? .....Good times...
I can't recall all the names I've been called, but I do recall going back and forth with you several times. You've grown on me like a fungus and I enjoy getting a chuckle out of your Bert love.

One more point. Often things get put into false dichotomies. Here are two of that seem to be often on this board.

You're either a pumper or a dumper.

Mods have to 'censor' or leave everything alone.

As for mods, I would hope they could and would ...moderate the board. I haven't seen much keeping threads on topic. I know there are times when the distractions are the most (or only!) valuable thing in a thread, but there are other (many?) times when a discussion that could be really interesting devolves into Mac / Foley / Driskel / LDR / Nord / etc., etc., suck - I am miserable and I will allow nothing but misery until I get what I want (though none of us has any influence). Perhaps I've missed it, but it seems that the mods don't moderate much - and that's not a knock on them, just an observation and a suggestion of where the board could be improved.

We don't really do much. Other than read every post. Delete inappropriate content. Clean up the "not quite deleted" mistakes everyone makes, then reposts again because they misspelled one word, or misclicked the picture they were trying to embed, sometimes 3-4 times. Merge duplicate threads. Warn folks when they start getting a little out of hand ( you don't always see what goes on in the background). I may be missing a thing or two, I'm getting old and senile. We don't do much though. We ain't gettin paid either, so whadya expect?

Some random musings on the topic at hand:
  • Message boards are where opinions are shared and junk is talked. If you can't respect differing opinion and/or take a barb or joke or two, either grow a pair or go elsewhere. There are plenty of flavors and colors to choose from on the interwebs.
  • As far as this board, yes strong opinions reign and both sides (or more) of any topic, sports or non-sports related. If I had one 'improvement' to suggest or offer, and everyone including myself can do it, is to be more constructive in praise/criticism. Don't just say, "gee that sucks balls" or "wow, that's great" ad nauseam. Add some facts to back up how you feel, and not like you are defending a masters thesis either, just some more constructive criticism or praise.
  • One thing that could also help, although a rarity, are constructive opposing fans. Not blathering fools like Alvin either. There were a couple of decent Vol fans in the past that made good contributions. We all gave Muncie (RIP) pure hell with the band smack, but, if there is such a thing as a 'good Nole', he was it, along with 'Noles'.
  • There isn't anyone here I wouldn't buy a beer or would not want to meet in living color, even folks I don't agree with 90% of the time, in fact, I think those posters would be the ones I would be most intrigued to meet the most.
Just my .02.

:lmao2::lmao2::lmao2: Your think GCMB is why people are leaving "Gator Nation". Are the pumper boards busy? Not the last time I looked. Gator County is a morgue and 247 is nonstop strafing runs by Noles, just like it's been for a decade.

I guess you also blame Trex for the empty stadium.

Dude, the PRODUCT ON THE FIELD is why no one wants to talk Gator Football.

We try to talk and are shouted down and attacked... maybe you are blind as well as tone deft.

Well, this thread has not exactly gone swimmingly so far.

I think what's needed to keep things from getting stale is new blood and most of all something exciting to talk about on the field. Think about it, we've basically seen the exact same thing for 5 or 6 years now. It carries over onto the board because we've been having the same conversations for that long. I don't post much in the sports forum anymore for that very reason. Until something changes in the way we play the games to provide new topics, the same conversations will be replayed over and over.

And it's always good to get new posters to post and provide perhaps a different and fresh angle on things. Even if it's rival posters. At least they liven things up in the trash talk category.

In my memory, every new poster who shows up is attacked and run off...... Name 2 that have stuck it out?

Omar doesn't count.....
