You want reality? You want to take actions that will improve the board? Hear us, do something about it.

Your facilities suck. Yeah, you bled your booster club to afford upgrades like a saloon where there is NO ALCOHOL, and your sports facilities are barely on par with other programs. Hell, your recruiting board is either blank or filled with kids from years ago. Where is your planning for the future? You are still playing catch up, you'll never land those 4* and 5* posters because you settle for low to no talent posters and allow them not only starting positions but let them run most of the high profile plays that others watch and groan. THAT is the face of your program....negators. Folks will claim that is our fanbase, but maybe that's just the people that stay tuned because that's what runs rampant.

You have no special teams. You have two phases to your game, PF and Sports. That's it. And on each side of that ball, you have groups that run 2 plays over and over ad nauseum. A real Head Ball Coach would have benched those that can't be team players, and likely would have kicked some of those pansy ass pumpers off the squad altogether if they can't put some meanness in their game. The PF side of things has a lot of energy, a pretty clear definition of who it is with a few players throwing contrarian comments to keep things 'balanced' but they are just decoys that nobody takes seriously.

If you want to take this program to the next level, put a bar into the saloon and allow (require?) drinking and posting. That alone will draw more funding, more participation, and more diverse (incoherent rambling) input from a broader spectrum of people. Have bouncers and an ID check if you feel you need to keep up pretenses, but for GODS sake, get us some alcohol. Kick the top 5 posters out of the Sports section. Negator or pumper, doesn't matter - lock them out of practice for a few weeks so they know what it's like to not be the best retard in the romper room; and more importantly let the other voices get heard that are constantly shouted down. CREATE the void from those that dominate with nothing new, and see what fills it. Couldn't be any worse. And when your team captains are let back in, they have to conform or get benched again. Also, issue badges that say "I'm a level xx fan of program yy". You always want people to say what program they are a fan of, and members question one another's allegiance...make it publicly visible and re-instate the 'Gator Fan Level' system from years ago so we can e-dck size against one another more clearly. Lastly, Take the PF and apply language filter - I don't mean to **** out certain words, I mean have whole threads appearing in Russian so we can understand from their perspective how much they actually helped/hurt our political system, and perhaps we can find the right way to work with them to get who we want as President instead of who they think we should have. Make threads about ISIS appear in arabic for similar reasons - help us understand from their perspective, help them feel it is a safer place to spout their anti-Ameicanisms...heck, make threads in Swedish if that makes them feel more at home.

Bottom line, other than getting the site off the ground, you've left it to the inmates to paint the place, bring their own furniture (and piss on it), and generally add walls randomly then create windows and throw bricks through them. You've chosen not to decide, and you still have made a choice (/Rush :headbang:). Own it. This multi-personality mess is a reflection of it's creator. Good morning, dad. Koo-koo-ka-choo.

I find it hard to believe this post is even remotely serious.

The opinions are far and away in one direction. Those in the tiny minority are giving me a really hard time for not changing things to suit their style. How exactly would that be a smart move on my part? Would that tiny minority enjoy the mass exodus if I starting doing thing the Swamp Gas way?

I'm not ignoring anyone, I appreciate all the input. This thread had nothing to do with offseason clicks. I'd like to have one of these two or three times a year to let people get things off their chest.
So this board is not a republic? :sadnanner:

Allow me to preface my post with a quick background of myself. I did NOT attend the University of Florida. My family moved to Atlanta well before I was born, and the Hope Scholarship was too much to pass on. I have been attending UF sporting events for as long as I can remember (elementary school) and my father and I have been football season ticket holders since 2005. We make the round trip drive from Atlanta to Gainesville for most home games, typically in a single day. We frequently hit a road game per season, and try to catch Gator Basketball and Baseball in Athens. I guess you could say I'm more than the bandwagon or casual fan.

As a long time lurker on a few messages board going all the way back to several versions of the Sun's GSMB, I'll give you my honest feedback, which isn't all negative.

I spend a few minutes a day browsing the main board. I don't dare wander into the political or lounge boards for the following reason. I'm here for Gator Sports info, which is basically why you're here too. I use Gator Chatter, Swamp Gas, and Twitter to keep tabs on the latest info, and you guys do as good a job as anyone at providing me with the latest news and "inside" info.

I appreciate that you seem to have kept the likes of Alvin York, Lawrence of Florida/Canething, Catmania, etc from this board. Those gimmicks are the reason I only hit GSMB once/month or so. They destroyed that forum.

Having said all of that, I frequently bail on a thread after the first page. By then the topic of discussion typically devolves to inside jokes and personal attacks, and I don't have time for that. I can only imagine what the political and lounge boards are like. The exception to this rule is on-going events, like NSD or the like.

I get that a lot of folks spend quite a bit of time here and you develop friendships and rivalries, that's to be expected on a social forum like this. But personally attacking someone because he or she thinks Coach Spurrier/Zook/Meyer/Mac can/can't get the job done is a real turn off to the casual reader.

I hope this helps.

GTFO of here with your level-headedness. You're not even a level 5.

PS Get an av, and post more because this place needs some level-headedness. Also if you don't, Swamp Donkey will stalk you.

This message board isn't really intended for the every now and then casual reader/ non-poster type either. But what the heck. Hey Ox, you should change up the format/content/presentation of the board so it caters to the people who seldom come here. That's a winning formula right there.

Just try to keep politics out of the main sports forums. I get enough of that crap (with an emphasis on the word "crap") in other places. But I think many of the antagonisms on this board reflect the general state of the UF football program in the past few years. We went from top to bottom and are not sure which way we are headed now. Uncertainty breeds discontent and we see that here.

It's the 80/20 rule. 20% of the members are going to do 80% of the posting.
20% of a thread is going to be quality 80% is going to be ... not quality.

I get the sarcasm, and fashioning a board strictly for the drive-by readers isn't smart. However, if the intent is to grow as a board, then you need to be somewhat inviting and welcoming...create an environment people would want to join (and that's not just on Ox, but everyone who posts here). The flip side is kind of what we've become - a private clubhouse of regulars who eat their own to avoid stagnation, with a window for drive-bys to look in and keep on moving. If it becomes a matter of regulars only, then the only drawback to making it a wholly private site is Ox loses out on his advertising hits. Otherwise, it's the same as we've become for the most part.

Great post and I greatly appreciate Gator fans who don't have a degree, the Gator Nation is big enough for all and considering one of the most famous Gators never attended we have room for all.

I agree but we are far from the bottom. I seem to remember a time when UF lost their home coming game so badly that many left at half time.

I always find it amusing that the ones that complain the most about the PF, are the ones that never go in there. Go figure

At times, there is often more reasonable conversation held in the PF than on the sports board, albeit about completely different topics of course. Not to say it doesn't stray off course as the sports forum does, because at times it does, but it's mostly light hearted, and since the group is smaller in there, it tends not to bother as many.

To each their own though, ain't no skin off my back

Just curious... does anybody ever sabotage a political thread with inappropriate sports comments?

Occasionally, yes. But it's rare, and short lived.

on occasion, but we find the fortitude to nut up and get back on topic at some point.

It's many other things, definitely inappropriate  though, that take a thread off topic.

I think people take message boards in general far too seriously, and inevitably someone makes it personal. Don't look for an argument, because you'll ALWAYS find one. Enjoy conversation and take what people say with a grain of salt.
That said, I can understand how it can look to outsiders, where that happy medium is, is not for me to decide, however.
