I cancelled my direct tv about a month ago and got sling. Works great for me. Got one of those hd antennas and got all the local channels out of Jax. Mostly all me and my family watch most of the time is Netflix. The only live tv I ever watch is the news and sports, mostly football and a couple of shows. Downside is no dvr, but sling has a cloud based dvr you can get for an extra fee, but I haven't done that yet. All in all I'm satisfied, and I'm saving like $70 a month.

PlayStation Vue has DVR.

Looks like that is only on the PS4. Sad face.

I think I'm gonna check out the cloud based dvr sling has come out with. Plus I don't have a PlayStation anyways. Still looks pretty cool.

I don't either. I use it on AppleTV and Roku. It has a great guide. And a much better interface.

Well I may look into it, but like I said I'm not watching a lot of cable tv now, except for AMC. Come football season I may look into it and see how it will compare to sling at that point.

I think it will expand from that, but started on the PS4. I need to read up on it.

I wouldn't be surprised if not long after March Madness that it rolls out to at least some other devices, ones that can handle it anyway.

Also sounds like they will start, at some point in the not so distant future, providing real time sports scores, much like what Comcast currently does for their X1.

I can't wait for College football season where I can run multiple screens with the SEC Network, ESPN, ESPNU, etc.

Orbi doesn't lose speed because base communicates with satellites on a separate, direct channel. It's been AMAZING even with 2 Netflix and a PS4 running at the same time and NO switch/call drops when moving. Depending on your physical layout, you might be able to do it with 2 satellites like me, 3 would definitely cover every corner. Setup was CRAZY EASY and went just like the video on YouTube showed. I HATED all the router/extender crap and it's GONE.

Thanks for posting this. I will look into this further. Reviews on amazon were very good. I was considering getting yet another range extender but this is undoubtedly a better solution. Just have to decide it i want to chunk $400 give or take for it.

So....I finally did it. I was a DirecTV subscriber for years through all of the changes. My total combined bill (ATT/DIRECTV) was just north of $600. Lots and lots of channels but mostly sh!t. I called and canceled DirecTV cold and have since subscribed to PlayStation Vue and Netflix. I also canceled my home phone which we rarely used. I figure to save $300+/month.

I've been with DIRECTV for almost 20 years and also ATT mobile. I've been able to get some pretty good discounts lately that have brought the price way down. I think they realize there are other options out there and becoming more competitive on price.

They offered to knock $5/month and then $10. Too little too late for me.

Again, the other mesh systems might be just as good or better, but I have zero complaints about the Orbi or its price after 3 months now. We were in router/extender hell and still had issues... no more.

When I canceled Cable, they said we will drop you by $15, I said to match what I'm getting you would have to drop it by $100 just to be in the ball park.

For years, if I would call in to customer retention, I could usually get $20-$30 a month shaved off. But a couple of years ago they tightened up on that, so at that point I called in and cancelled, and set the cancellation date at the end of the month (which kind of blew their mind). By the next day I had an email offering a deal pretty much equivalent to the promotionals associated with a brand new customer, and shaved about $40 a month off for a year. Then about a year later, after then ATT merger, I callled again, and they shaved $50 a month off - again for a year I think.

It still isn't cheap, but at least it is competitive. The Direct TV portion tends to run $90-$120 a month, including HBO and showtime.

It is probably worth it if it really works that well, which by all accounts it apparently does. I upgraded the wifi router a year or two ago and that helped, but still the ends of the house have spotty coverage - i have 2600 sq ft house, but all on one floor, and the router and cable outlet is in the office which is at the corner of the house. I got an Almond wifi extender for about $60 and it works OK, helps some, but occasionally craps out and doesn't dramatically increase the signal.

I tried similar stunts with mixed results over the years. I have no problem with DirecTV or ATT. I had the top level of programming with all of the movie channels and the NFL Sunday Ticket, at its highest level as well. I just needed to make a clean break as I realized I was paying for a bunch of crap. I am still paying for crap I don't watch, but not nearly as much.

No, stop the madness! I'm sure that over the last 5-10 years I've spent upwards of $1000 on "awesome" new routers with cool names and extenders out the wazoo... and still had all kinds of issues. Not a single problem since buying the Orbi... I'm to the point of sounding like a paid advocate, that's how happy my house is with it.
PS 2600 single story I'm sure you could cover it completely with Orbi and one satellite.

Well it is definitely on my radar now - thanks for bringing it up. Your comments are pretty consistent with almost all of the Amazon comments.

If I buy it in the next two month, I can still probably squeeze it in on the 10% off amazon for 6 months promotional I got on a credit card (Amex blue cash).

It just works... Not a single call from home asking about a connection issue and it used to happen frequently. Oh, and again, ONE ssid for everything
