Remember, a bowl game affords us an extra 2 full weeks of practice time where the coaches can be actively involved with the team and hands-on with the players, teaching them scheme and shaping their development.

I think that that view was reasonable. UF had won 10 games and the East in McElwain's first year. The offense had shown some promise with Grier at QB and then as you know struggled down the stretch with T. Harris at QB. So the idea/hope that people thought UF would be ok with someone other than T. Harris at QB was hardly outrageous. Now a year later when it was clear McElwain was failing produce a decent offense rather than a victim of a suspension of his QB, it was not reasonable.
