And yes, it seems like Petty did his best to hide that he was a southerner. Rarely writing songs about anything to do w/ his childhood/growing up in North Central Florida.

Most of the band is from Gainesville and has family in town. Sheriff Sadie Darnell is Tom's first cousin. I think they had a great time when they did the Homecoming tour in 2006. That whole show is on YouTube and it's a great one. Mike Campbell is playing a Gator logo guitar - awesome

He put the town of Brooker in one of the Heartbreakers songs... if that isn't North Central Florida reference nothing is.
Not to mention he released an album titled "Southern Accents".

Understood, but if you read the book it's mentioned/discussed. When they moved out to California there were a lot of southern acts that were sort of stereotyped and he wanted to make sure his band wasn't considered a southern act.

You can hedge your bet on a clean Corvette--Heavy Metal, Felders' high point.

He's, at best, a footnote. Never, ever, in TP's league.

Not the same league, but his high point was joining the Eagles. That’s nothing to sneeze at.

Anyway, RIP Mr. Petty! I hope you’re learning to fly...

That's a California thing. Lynyrd Skynyrd went through the same issue.

Saw Petty in 1982, my Freshman year, at the O-Dome. One of my favorite concerts ever. And I still have a gold Bigsby tailpiece he gave my brother in law in the 1970s for shooting promo stills for his band. I put it on a 1962 Gretsch Country Gentleman. The whole set up is worth quite a bit now, I'd imagine.

Has anyone read Petty (by Warren Zanes)? Good info, but hard to read (I didn't like the style of writing by Zanes, took me a while to get through the book).
I read it last year, It was hard to read. But had lots of insights and facts about Tom and his transition from nobody to TOM FCKN PETTY.

The wife reminded me of that last night............Brooker City made famous by the famous Heartbreaker

She's a 600-pound shut-in these days. It's pretty awful.
SO you are saying Nix to stevie......

Talking about a drunk tank in Atlanta being a motel room and working Orlando if the orange groves don't freeze. He didn't hide it.
