When has Kelly(an east coast guy) ever mention that he prefers the West Coast? Yet, it gets thrown around as fact on nearly a daily basis. When I keep hearing that as the main source of reasoning behind him picking UCLA, I know that someone's blowing major smoke up our a$$es.

Yeah, this is a good point. Mike Bellotti even called BS on this today.

Alright, alright. Chip negotiates like Al Qaeda. I’m prepared to throw in a few Oxbucks to finally put this thing to rest. You’re welcome. Press conference on Monday.

Watch for the Chip Kelly balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade =
1) too pricey $
2) body-morph overinflated
3) too many strings attached
4) flying above everybody's heads
5) singularly flies alone
6) colorless
7) may take its own route

A lot of people are bashing Stricklin, but I think he is the only reason we have a chance with hiring Kelly right now. A lot of Kelly's demands (salary, facilities, etc.) need Board of Trustees and other committees within the UAA approval. I suspect Stricklin is trying to sell these guys in giving Kelly what he wants just as much as he is trying to convince Kelly into coming here.

I also don't think Kelly has made up his mind yet. I think he was ready to come to Florida, but then UCLA gave him a really good offer that anyone in their right mind would at least consider. I don't blame Kelly for wanting to think this through before he makes this huge decision, and I hope the higher ups at UF are willing to adjust their end of the bargain so that coaching at UF is too good to pass up on.

We'll see what happens, but I still think Kelly will be a Gator.

Agree, Foley wouldn’t have ever even pursued Kelly, instead he’d tried to find some up and comer guy that he could get for cheap. At least Stricklin is swinging for the fences and not trying to lay down a bunt.

Dunlap (the Freak 2.0) got arrested immediately before then 2009 SEC championship game where we lost to Bama. He was suspended and didn't play. Maybe could have made a difference (a la Nick Fairly in the Auburn/Oregon NC game 2011).

He would’ve helped, but it wouldn’t have made a difference. We got pushed around pretty good that day, Bama had been waiting a year to play us again, and we didn’t take them as seriously as we should’ve. I think the ‘09 team was pretty arrogant, except for a few players.

my point is....if you are going to go swing for the fences....fine, do it....more power to ya....that's what I want them to do. BUT, do it in a way that if you strike the hell out, you don't make the school look bad. You don't get caught because if you do, then everyone else knows they were your second, third, fourth....hell we may have to go off the board at this point to get a coach. I love the effort. The execution was flawed.

There is a point where you can’t hide that you are talking to a guy. We are in deep negotiations with Chip. There is s point where you have to take the risk and it becomes known he is your top choice, but that point is only when you are in very serious discussions... we are definitely at that point.

it's all good. Like I said in another post, I have gone from basically observing quietly for years to trying to becoming a member that adds value to the forum. Hindsight is 20/20 and one of my favorite phrases I try to live by is "I either win or learn" and I hope that SS has a similar approach. I have commented enough on this topic, trying to provide different angles to consider from the apparel deal side of things to the ways to structure an employment contract without violating pre-existing clauses. I think it is best I stand down at this point until I have something of value to add otherwise I am just contributing to the noise. Have a great Thanksgiving and Go Gators.
Gtfo. Nobody cares for getting the right answer. What's important is their answer.

Wasn't he at a player party too?

Fooley paid 4.5 mil to Butters and 4.0 mil to Chimp to not coach for three years.

How much money did those under the radar no name budget hires actually save us?
We paid too much for them. The above is not bargin basement. Paying them $1M is BBS. They were just duds here.

I agree. But the 09 defense was solid. One thing that usually gets overlooked about the 09 team, is that we had to replace to stud redshirt senior offensive tackles in Trautwein and Watkins from 08. We were not able to run the ball near as effectively in 09 and Tebow nearly was killed when Patchan wiffed in Kentucky.

That would take some intricate collusion. The truth is usually more in line with the simple answers.

I'm not talking about you, personally, but the whole notion of Chip to UCLA seems ridiculous to me. For over a week, rumor after rumor surfaced regarding Chip to UF. We actually have documented PROOF that our entire university leadership took a personal flight to meet Chip. The AD returns home grinning from ear to ear. We hear the deal is virtually signed. Then, we hear what's a known fabrication, in that, Chip flew out to LA. And now everyone's convinced he's interested in UCLA. Man, you guys are emotional. Stop following the storylines and start studying the facts. You'd see that this is all an act to pretend that he's undecided. I know a lot of people have questioned why the AD would delay the announcement, but we have to look to history. Teams NEVER hire coaches before the end of the regular season.

Couldn't agree more. I tried following several web pages that claimed Chip Kelly to UCLA and they were all dead links, probably meaning they were taken down because they're BS. Nobody knows where Chip Kelly is going except Chip Kelly and his agents, and even they may not know at this point (I think they do). Nobody else, not us on this board, not the trolls who are throwing ****e up on this board to provoke, not the UCLA hacks, nobody knows at this point because the announcement isn't coming until after the regular season is over for whichever team is chosen. Period. Any fretting about it before that time is wasted energy.

If you can't do anything else, just take today off and enjoy time with your family and/or friends. Eat, drink and be happy.

You still have three days after today to anguish if you need to.

This whole thread would make an amazing coffee table book. It has mystery, suspense, anger, excitement, sadness....
Could be titled, chasing Chip
