Please no Grantham! Please
I'm honestly curious here. Is it just because of him giving Henry the choke sign? Because he was a former Bulldog? Or do you have a legit coaching gripe with him? If so, who do you go and get in time to make an impact on defensive recruiting which we desperately need this cycle?

I have a friend who is a UGA alum. When he saw this he was ecstatic. That should tell you what you need to know.

I have got to think there are other DCs avail who could come in or keep Shannon. He is better anyway.

He’s the Co-DC at Bama right now. Probably the top recruiter in the nation. He would not come here unless you made him the DC. Again – a pipe dream.
I figure that title is more for his resume and justification of his paycheck than his actual job. He certainly is a lights out recruiter.

I remember him taunting Chaz Henry and the thing with Vandy, I think when Franklin (?) was there. I'm not sure the year, but as I remember it Franklin took exception to something a player said to him and yelled at Grantham yelled back and players got involved.

I'm willing to hear the names. I personally don't think he has ever fielded a defense that I remember has that bad - and they are typically fundamentally sound; which we most certainly are not.

As opposed to what I pointed out about the idea of hiring a guy who no one has ever even deemed worthy of a P-5 job? Two of the schools that you mentioned surrendered half-a-hundred to non-power 5 schools this season. Hard pass. I would argue that Troy is generally more talented than the teams playing in their conference.

Give me a name right now, available that you think is better. Because right now is when we need them. Then let's compare resumes, okay? As far as Cooper and Murphy, you realize that most NFL teams don't draft based on performance in college but instead project ceiling, right? So your argument is the NFL scouts were wrong on Cooper? Yeah, that's never happened before. Again, give me a better name. Dixon is not it. You can't argue Gonzales didn't get good production and then show me a guy with very little production and say he's better because he recruited guys who have done nothing. With as quiet a career as Carl Moore had he'd be 3rd on the team in receiving yards this year from the one year he was somewhat healthy.

Hevesy and Gonzales I'm excited about. Really not enthused about Grantham at all. If I had any say in the matter I think Marquand Manuel deserves a call. He could be a dynamic DC in the college ranks. If I remember correctly he has stated interest in returning to Gainesville as well.

Okay, but I'm not sure he's ever coached. Has he?

Edit - Wow, I never knew our guy had done so well for himself after he retired - as I don't follow the NFL much at all. I'm all for a disciple of Dan Quinn. This is someone I could definitely get behind. My only knock is that he doesn't appear to have ever been a DC before and I'd rather not have us be his OJT. He's a great Gator with some NFL cred, I agree we should at least make the call.

Koenning has been DC at one big school, Illinois in a period which produced the worst Big 10 offenses of our lifetime. He was 15th in scoring defense in his second year but 43rd in his first (again, with the in the worst Big10 we are ever likely to see.) That's your resume - other than Troy and he's your headliner. Grantham was a coach in the NFL for 10 consecutive seasons. Objectively, that has to make a difference. You don't have that kind of longevity at the highest level if you don't know what you're doing.

As far as Gonzales -
I you had no money in your hand and I gave you even a $10 bill; that's a huge difference. I think he's much better than what we have - and already understands and can coach receivers in the system being installed. You can hate the Mullen hire (I do) but the fact remains he understands the system. He has succeed with Florida receivers in the past under this same system. You can complain that he didn't succeed "enough" for you, but you can't say he didn't. As bad as the system was at LSU toward the forward pass, his guys were still light years better than the crew we have fielded under Dixon. Yes, it is a huge upgrade. You can blame Nuss if you want for the WRs not getting open or the QB not finding them - but the knife cuts both ways. Is it the system or the coach? His guys have done well in their systems based on what they were being asked to do. Dixon's have not.

The last word is yours, because neither one of us is changing the others mind. I don't think Koenning is better than Grantham - that's my opinion. Moreover, with the early signing period time is of the essence. SOS did plenty of stuff to rub the other team the wrong way. If I wasn't a Gator I'd probably think a lot of it was classless. That being said,if it was a blind resume, I'd argue this one isn't even close. Another poster mentioned Marquand Manuel; which sentimentally I love - but I'm not sure I want his first DC job to be us.

Sure do. Remember when Meyer called time outs in 2008 at the end of the game as pay back for the on field celebration the previous year? It's a rivalry for a reason.

I thought he was only secondary coach? I'm basing this on the information I found online. I don't follow the Falcons at all, so I'll take your word for it.
