For all those huffing and puffing about the 6 million per year:

1. He was making over 4 at MSU, and apparently they were contemplating upping it to close to 6
2. Like him or not, at least we know that UF is now willing to pony up and pay the big bucks.
3. Mostly importantly, his buyout is only $500k (edit - $500k buyout was MSU buyout, not UF). If he is as bad as many here think he is, at least the buyout won't be an obstacle. I think it shows a lot of stones on Mullen's part to leave a safe and secure job to come into the lion's den with not a lot of financial backstop.

Where did you get that from?

His buyout to leave MSU was rumored to be $500k. His buyout if he is fired at UF has been rumored at a flat $12 million.

Barring something like recruiting violations, death threats, etc. Mullen will get 3-4 seasons to prove himself before talks of a buyout are seriously considered.

1. Miss St can't afford to pay a coach close to 6 million.

2. Since UF is now willing to pay the big bucks, they should have contacted Franklin, Patterson, and/or Gundy about the job. Rumor is that they didn't offer Kelly that much.

3. His buyout at Miss St was $500k. At UF his buyout is a flat rate of $12 million. Pretty pricey buyout unless they fire him after year two or three.

Dan Mullen, football coach at Florida. A football program barely alive. Gentlemen, can he rebuild it? We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's next National Champion. Can Dan Mullen be that man? A program better than it was before. Better, stronger, faster.

From what I read we did offer Gundy. He rejected it.

I think we offered Kelly around $5.5 million.

This!!! There is no going back now.

I think your buyout figure is wrong though. Isn't it a flat 12 million bucks?

If that is true (and it is consistent with other things I heard of about 6 million / year) that is kind of odd - seems like Kelly would have been a back the truck up full of money offer. But at the end of the day I don't think he wanted to be here, and I'm not sure 7-9 million/ per year would have changed that.

I was under the impression that $500k was his MSU buy out and his UF buy out was $12 million?
