easily an west coast team that is a red headed step child in their conference, probably doesn't follow what happened at Florida. Sees his 44-28 (22-12 at UF) record and the fact he went to back-to-back SEC Championship games. It is an easy sell, because the fanbase probably didn't follow what happened at UF.
Guarantee a fan base that allows a hiring like this doesn't even care. They are probably hiring him to keep games close and clap off the field with a huge smile when they lose by 14.

Most likely they will post his record and say he got the SEC Championship game twice. Hell 4 loss seasons are probably pretty good for them.

Let's be honest, this is a perfect job for him.

There are very little expectations and therefore little to no pressure to perform.
He can stroll around with no socks saying stupid sh!t all the time and nobody will notice.
Sharks and various other sea creatures can be shipped in quickly.
Lots of peanut butter available

Good for him. He may actually do OK there. I think he is probably a decent coach, .

Oregon State is already near rock bottom. Nothing anybody can do to hurt their program very much, but with McBeaver, all bets are off.

Future quotes from McElwain in Corvallis...

“When you guys go to the river with the grizzlies, you see all those dead fish on ice? That’s the energy they’re playing with right now. Now think about that visual. How excited are you to hang out with that dead fish?”

“Look there’s nothing wrong with getting your belly rubbed by a shark or a beaver or an elk, it feels good. Man, I like it.”

“Quarterbacks didn’t play great. You usually don’t play great when you’re playing off a log in the river.”

“It was a great crowd. I know the ladies don't like to shave their legs or underarms much out here, so I'm good with all of the overalls and flannel. They had a lot to do with the smell, and caused their team trouble.”

And of course the ever-popular "We’ll get there, but we’ve got a lot of work to do.”

I lived in Salem Oregon for a few years about a decade ago and my best friend went to school at OSU. Corvallis was only 45 minutes away and so I went to a few games (which are MUCH different than UF games). I have therefore always considered OSU my little adopted step brother.

They'd be dead to me if they hired this POS.

As long as it doesn't involving running a program and, you know, coaching - I'm sure he'd be great.

Butters is way too lazy to be successful anywhere, even the Big Sky Conference.

Is he capable of bringing a bunch of 2 and 3 start recruits at OSU to 4-5 loss season? Perhaps. That's probably good enough for Beaver-Land.

2222 is heavily invested in the we just needed one more year narrative.

1. I am not "2222" or any other poster with associated with any 4 digit string of 2's.
2. WTF / who the F is "2222". I did a forum search and could not find a 2222 to verify who I am not.
3. Dude, you are really obsessive. I guess if this 2222 fixation gets you past the Mullen hire, well, happy there is some value in this otherwise feckless exercise.
4. I in no way wanted Butters around another year. He was toast.

Honestly no. I think he's finished. It was obvious he was in it for the big payday. Once he got it, he no longer wanted to work.

I agree. He suckered J Fooley into giving him a no-lose contract worth millions. Now he can settle down on his big Montana ranch and chase purdy butterflies in summer and cool snowflakes in winter. Suits him.

You know it's a stretch when the eastern Washington connection card is played.
