I'm pretty sure F$U would be on the list of prohibited transfer-to schools given they'd be on our schedule next year and the years following.
Voluntarily withdrawal may be different than transferring. I don’t know. However, we’ve never been one to restrict transfers. Maybe Stricklin will be different

We have always been ones to restrict transfers to other SEC schools or teams on our schedule.

@SECCountryUF: Despite latest de-commitment, Florida could finish with stellar wide receiver class http://sec.news/2ExUltz #GatorNation

Bear with me while I pull a stupid for a bit here. From the article:

Incoming transfers Trevon Grimes (Ohio State) and Van Jefferson (Ole Miss) don’t show up on Florida’s commitment list, but they’re already signed and count against the 2018 class.

Grimes (family health issues) and Jefferson (Ole Miss sanctions) could both receive NCAA waivers to play immediately next season. If that happens, these guys are essentially coming in like junior college transfers.

They have college experience (particularly Jefferson) and can contribute right away. Moreover, Grimes was a top-50 overall recruit in the Class of 2017 and Jefferson ranked top-150 overall in the 2015 class.

So it’s important for Florida fans to keep those two in mind when they look at the Gators’ class on signing day and see only a couple wide receivers on the commitment list.

UF is scheduled to host Under Armour All-American receivers Jacob Copeland (Feb. 2) and Justin Watkins (Jan. 19) before National Signing Day. They are also top-150 overall prospects, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

1. Grimes and Jefferson count against 2018? Super stupid moment...would the 2018 class be who is signed in Feb of 2018, meaning the class we are signing RIGHT NOW? How can they possibly count against the current class unless it is referring to the 25/yr limit?

2. Grimes was 2017, and Jefferson was 2015. How much eligibility does each have once they can play for UF?

3. Been wanting to ask, but I'm assuming Justin Watkins is NOT related to Sammy and Jaylen Watkins?

4. The 4* kid we signed last year then didn't play due to heart problems is officially out of football, correct? I'm assuming the kid still can get some sort of hardship scholarship for an education but does not count against football and may open up another spot for an EE to count to last year. Is this even close to the reality?

There are two rules at work here. One is the initial number of new scholarships, and the other is a newer rule (like 4-5 years old) that has "initial counters" which includes GTs, transfers, jucos, everyone.

Robinson will be on a hardship/medical scholarship as long as he progresses towards his degree....similar to Rod Johnson, who just graduated.

I'm not sure about question #3, but I haven't see any mention of that.

So they count against our initial counters? For 2018 or their respective years out of HS?

They count against our initial counter limit for this year, the first year we give them aid.

So there is really a limit on new scholarships given (between Dec1 and May 31) and the initial counter rule for those first offered aid each fall term (catches grayshirts but also transfers).

Here is some help but it isn't indepth. http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...overhauling-college-football-recruiting-rules

It's the 25(or 28) rule. You can only give out that many NEW scholarships per year. Has nothing to do with counting back.

From seccountry:

News & notes
  • Watkins was scheduled to visit Florida this weekend, but has rescheduled for Jan. 19. With Alabama LB commit Quay Walker also moving his UF trip to Feb. 2, it appears the Gators won’t host any official visitors this weekend. The contact period resumes Friday and the coaching staff will likely hit the road recruiting.
  • Florida extended offers Wednesday to 2019 defensive end Mohamoud Diabate, 2019 cornerback Cam’Ron Kelly‏ and 2020 wide receiver Michael Wyman.

Transfers are definitely initial counters. So are walkons who get aid in the fall. There were stories about vis a vis LDR and someone else, saying it made the class full one year.

Im struggling to google search it at the moment. "initial counter" and "transfer" brings up tons of unrelated stuff. Or mostly other message boards.

No official visitors the first weekend after the dead period. :dunno:

This year our only limit is the 25 rule. (Or is it 28 - not clear on that). The other stuff isn’t an issue.

Well, on the bright side, the last weekend is shaping up well. But I agree it's odd to have no visitors.

70% of signings occurred during the early signing period, so there really aren't many D1 recruits left to visit. So that is probably why we're seeing so few visits set up.

Yeah, plus it isn't so clear about GT and other transfers. I may have been wrong.

At least some midyears and some don't count against our initial counters. The exceptions are about a page and half long and can be found in rule 15.5.6.3 if that's your thing. Here's the link. http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/D110.pdf

Also, labelling a student as a voluntary withdrawal also has implications and allows us to replace him per rule 15.5.6.4.1 "An institution may replace a counter who voluntarily withdraws from the football team by providing the financial aid to another student who already has enrolled in the institution and is a member of the football squad."

There were a few that moved it until next weekend, think they want to all hit the clubs together

It sounded like Mullen moved back the people planning to visit this weekend so he could do some in house visits. Probably trying to go set up some additional visits the last three weekends.
