Neither is the reason for his failure in the late stages of his career. It was his lack of skills in interviewing, his lack of skill in research of such an important decision in hiring the Gator HBC, or maybe his interest level was waning? The guy hired Zook, Chimp and MacTard with only Meyer in the middle and Foley had nothing to do with that hire. MacTard was the only qualified HBC on the list, and this is THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA FIGHTING GATORS. Foley is the reason for his own demise at the end of his career, and we should all be sad to see it because he is a True Gator thru and thru. He should have had someone else do the hiring and preserved his legacy.

My answer is Muschamp. We’ve never recovered from that colossal mistake that set the program back 10 years.

McElwain IMO.

From a recruiting and PR standpoint, he was Chernobyl (on the heels of Three Mile Island).

I agree and yet Chimp only destroyed the offense and yet still left a very thin amount of talent (ie 3 four star QBs, some 4 stars at WR and RB.) McElstank left dumpster trash.

Build it and they will come. The kids and the coaches.

Foley is a joke. That "we're not getting in an arms race" was all you needed to know. The reverence that some people give him is undeserved. He rode the wave of a population boom and SOS to do things a monkey could've done. He gets way too much credit and not enough blame by a lot of Gator fans. I'll give him Billy D but not much else.

I would have to say facilities. I hate to give that Lawrence of Florida(LOF) character credit for anything. Does he (still) exist in that name or in any other entity?

Yeah the Florida Marlins and Cincinnati Reds use the same method, except there was a recession and none of the Bammers or Yankees of the world were affected innthe slightest.

Choosing not to compete and the resultant 1/2 to 3/4 empty stadium creates a recession for the slumlord teams every year.
That hurts, I am a lifetime Cincinatti Reds Fan. I route for currently what is the worst team in the majors.
Don't know what you mean by "slumlord" . GABP is a beautiful ballpark. Reds can't spend as much as others, but its ridiculous that they didn't spend anything on a quality starting pitcher in the off season.

I'm in Hogtown for the weekend visiting old friends. Drove around the campus and out to Paynes Prairie State Park (way cool) earlier in the day. What a flipping gorgeous day here.

The amount of cash being dumped into the campus and esp adjacent real estate (there's a housing monstrosity going up in the old Student Ghetto) is mind blowing.

Somebody's got some deep pockets.

It's a shame the football facilities planning worked the way it did. That end of the campus has turned into a hodge podge of new facilities crammed on top of each other with really no place to grow but up.

Jeez, they tore down the old Wilbert's across from the Law School. Asswipes.

One reason that the baseball stadium was built facing into the sun was that the left field fence used to be just a hill that served as a poor man's fence. Moving the baseball stadium out of that crowded area to give football and baseball more room to expand is the best long term move.

You have to relocate the baseball stadium if you're going to add football facilities in any sort of logical way.

I wouldn't have guessed that 30 years ago, when there was room to breathe. No more. That area has transformed into a concrete jungle.

It's weird seeing it all. Tons of money being spent. I can't say the campus looks better but it's undeniably more expensive real estate now.

I have also been driving around Gainesville today and discovered in horror that my favorite basketball court of all time at Hume Hall had been torn down for a freaking parking lot. Part of my youth gone forever.

Plow the mother under, start building football complex.

Baseball and all thirty of their fans can drive to a HS in the meantime while their stadium is being built. IT is also the one that should be built on the cheap. No one gives a damn about baseball. Premium boxes at a college baseball field. What kind of loon dreamed that up? The reason fans don't go isn't because they need shade. The reason they don't go is because it is fvkking baseball.

My final thoughts on the subject. When after multiple failures you double down and select a "coach" who would probably lose at the high school level, could not project any charisma (let alone enough to recruit), could not hold any kind of dialog, press conference or otherwise, without embarrassing himself and us, dressed like a refugee from Mayberry, had the strategic acumen to try to sell barbecue sauce to a clientele who was ready to lynch him, looked at Saturdays as a day off, and who made Zook and Chump look like the second coming of Bryant; then you, Foley, have risen to new levels of incompetence. You could have had Taj Mahal facilities and Mac would have turned the place into a dumpster fire. This joke of a "coach" almost single handedly made our brand a laughing stock. Unless we've struck gold with Mullen, the stench will linger for years.

My grandmother who has been dead for years and knew nothing about football could, from the grave, have picked a better coach.

I've been following this thread for awhile without posting. Now that I'm 3 Woodford's into my Saturday, I'd like to opine.

The hiring of Mac is way worse than facilities. Under Mac, we looked like a damn joke on the field. Our facilities weren't shown on national TV, but his $hitty coaching was.

Maybe poor facilities lost us some 'croots, but that means they got on campus to see them. The MacNuss $hitshow guaranteed recruits never wanted to step foot on campus, except to whoop our ass wearing Garnett/Gold or Purple/Yellow.

Mac is the WORST!!!
