In terms of yards given up per game, UF ranked 31st last season. Where will they be this year?

Discuss.

Because of Grantham's endless, at times reckless blitzes, we will be top 25 in fewest yards per game. We will also be near the bottom at big plays allowed against.....pretty much like MSU last season.

My initial inclination was to say 40-59. We've lost some key people.

That's offset, however, by a decidedly weak sked, a greater commitment to the weight room and what I believe is a better DC. I think that makes up for the personnel losses.

Whoever thinks 60-79 is way out there. No way we finish that low.

If we can improve on offense, the D will improve simply by spending less time on the field.

Bryan, Jefferson.
Mehhhh.... Bryan was potential. Sometimes good, sometimes terrible form. He never produced much.

CC we think would have done will but he has been nonexistent. We have about six of those little defensive end rush specialists. It's the one position we can handle injuries.

Our DL will be the best it's been at least since 2012.

Linebacker is a stil going to be a problem probably another year or two.

There's an old saying that applies. Until you have it, you don't have it.

Are you talking about CeCe?

He has actually been on the field.... and done almost nothing.

Zuniga, Zack, even Polite have looked better on the field.

Of course, CeCe's been playing out of position since his freshman year, which not unexpectedly was also his most productive year.

We don't have the prototypical sized DE's for a 3 - 4 defense. And, our LB'ers are not SEC LB'ers... Grantham has his work cut out for him. My opinion is that Polite and Zuniga have played much better at the DE position than Jefferson. Much more consistent.

Who hacked the Mule's puter? Says something good about these Gators?

DTs are 3-4 DEs. A heavy SDE is ok. Conliffe may be all SEC. He looked great imo in limited reps. DL isnt close to being our biggest properties. DL and RB are fine.

I should have typed size and speed. DT's are 3 - 4 DE if they're fast off the snap. Slow, Fat DT's will not be 3 - 4 DE's...

Dude, 300 lbs is desireable in a 3-4 D Lineman. Your assessment is almost 180 degrees wrong. Don't take offense. I got this same speech from Itraz several years ago, on the old board. I just didn't understand the Sabanesque 3-4s.

5 Tech players are DTs, even if we label them "DEs" now. They are lining up on a guard or inside the tackle and assigned 1 gap in Grantham's version. (Some versions are two gaps.) Speed is much less important than size and strength. The 3-4 DEs aren't edge players. No 240-260 lb flyweight Butters specials need not apply.

At Gyorja, Grantham usually played three 300 pounders and often had two 350 pounders on the line. “Big people beat up little people. It’s why there are weight classifications in boxing.” There are plenty of Grantham quotes here: https://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/30/...nse-uses-approach-of-alabamas-nick-saban.html

The classic "ends" in a 3-4 are the OLB. It is essentially just the old 5-2 defense with the ends standing up.

We are just fine on the DL and the true DTs can essentially rotate to all three spots, while big TJ Slaton plugs the A gaps, though we might get another pass rush specialist on the field on passing downs.

If you want some more meat and potatoes, take a look at this: https://www.rockytoptalk.com/2010/1...ams-3-4-variations-overloads-gaps-and-numbers

LB is where we will have the problem. There is no room for 205-220 pound backers in this system.

I, too, like the idea of starting knowing we have some big butts in the middle. It makes everything easier for us and harder for them. Tho, I agree those CB's need to stay healthy and the youngins to over perform.

Somewhere between 20-30. The upgrade at DC alone is good enough to bump up production.

I said 20-39 . We return everybody and the offense will probably be pretty bad. Opposing teams will be shutting their offense down after scoring 21.
