Read a VIP article on another site. Most of it was expected but the bit on the qb room was encouraging. It said that Franks looked like the clear cut starter at the beginning of spring but never progressed from that point. Jones opened some eyes in the final week of spring and now his work ethic so far this summer has been off the charts. He's either in the film room or working on his game. He has forced the coaches to take notice. It still sounded like to me Franks or Trask will get the day one nod but Jones is gonna get a ton of playing time and has a good chance of taking the top spot before the end of the season.

Shocking. I'm telling you it's just shocking.

Joking aside, how does Mullen keep him off the field? I don't think he can.

I hope he actually gets some reps with the #1's in fall camp. At least getting some scrimmage time against the 1&2's on defense will show him what the speed of the game looks like come game time.

There is zero chance he doesn't play barring injury. He'll have some 2006 Tebow-esque packages to run. What's encouraging to hear is that this early on he's taking charge and out working the the vets.

I think it'll exceed packages. We had a very good returning QB in Leak that year. What's returning this year is garbage. The coast is clear for someone to come in and take over.

This kid is damn good and now we find out on top of it he's a committed hard worker.

I think he gets more reps than anyone else in 2018. By far.

I really hope so. I still think Franks starts the year because Mullen has a history of not playing freshmen right away. That said if this trend continues for Jones he won't be qb2 all season.

If it is true that Franks has not improved he won't be starting, I doubt that is correct. If Jones is actually leading the team in the off season he probably should be the starter, I also don't believe this. Now that he is working hard and is being part of leading the team in the off season I believe and that is very positive.

I expect coach to start and play whichever QB gives us the best change of winning, nothing else.

It's simple, really. The offense will stall under Franks because he's Franks. It won't do much better under Trask, who's only marginally suited to it.

Jones has already shown he can make plays with his arm and his legs. Assuming he has a brain, Mullen will have no choice but to hand over the reigns.

Unless of course Jones proves to be a turnover machine. I kinda doubt that's going to happen.

Has Franks improved at all since he got here?
I don't know what an improved Franks looks like. His Driskel-like Rightfielder-Throwing-to-Third wind up is hard to fix.

Maybe it just means a guy that scares them a little with a slight potential to run, who can make one read plays, some RPO.... a guy that doesn't lose games and keeps the seat warm until
EJ is ready.

I might be surprised but coach has indicated strongly that there is no "offense" but rather one that can and will be adapted to the talents of the players instead of the other way around. The QB must be willing to run, all three meet that criteria.

Time will of course tell and I want the QB who gives us the best change of success to play.

I haven't seen reports that he's leading the team through off season work. Just that he's shown much more initiative to get in the film room or go through on the field work in his own time. Frank's started as the favorite to win the job based on physical tools and experience but as spring practice and summer workputs have happened Jones has closed that gap. And in Mullens past stops he has valued experience over unproven talent at the qb position.

Hopefully he can't get on the field early. If not, we know what we are getting. :eek3:
