Recruiting So what kind of OL does Hevesy like to recruit?

His blocking schemes are nothing like the previous regimes or even Alabama's. A lot of guard and tackle pulling, a lot of double teams at the point of attack. So one might think slimmer, smaller, faster type of OL. But neither his MSU nor the type he recruited/recruits at Florida follow that logic. Evan Neal is not small, Dontae Lucas is not small and neither is Deyavie Hammond. So what kind of OL does he like?

Stronger but still a bit athletic.

Not the slim 250 pound guys, at least not anymore. They seemed to have learned their lesson. Neither Creyer nor Mullinz do that anymore.

Hev doesn't recruit...that's his whole problem.

However, he tends to have decent lines so at least he can coach

Oh you mean the Pouncey Bros? He lucked out! He also lucked out on Carl Johnson and Marcus Gilbert, James Hurt and James Wilson.

Judging by his piss poor recruiting to this point... I don't think he has a clue what kind of OL he is trying to recruit. And, hearing that he is telling kids they won't see the field for three years... unbelievable...

What kind of bullish!t is this?
Don’t throw something like this out there without details
I posted this information over a month ago. My friend is very good friends with the family of an OL from Pensacola. The kid grew up a Gator fan, and was invited to the BBQ a few months ago - which was invite only for kids that would have their commitment automatically accepted. While at the BBR Hevesy hardly talked with him or his family, was rude to him and his family and told the kid if he committed and came to Florida he would not see the field for three years... My question is since we can barely field an OL with SEC caliber players... how in the hell would any decent OL have to wait three years to play at UF?

This same friend is on another Gator site and their moderators have heard multiple complaints from OL recruits that Hevesy is rude and an Ahole which would explain why our OL recruiting class blows..

Yep...but he can coach OL which is a step up from Brad Davis and the last few OL coaches we've had

He never recruited them or coached them since he was the TE coach. You're thinking the Daz, mattison and drayton. His best OL commit has been a4* juco in Rankin at MSU.
John Hevesy All Time Recruits

John Hevesy was the TE and Tackles coach and Addazio was the interior line coach. Since there are no records on who recruited who back then we have no idea whether it was Addazio or John Hevesy. That list you referenced is only since like 2013.
All I know is the MSU OL last year gave Alabama's vaunted defensive line fits. It was stout.

Yeah, early on Daz had TEs or maybe TE and tackles. Later Daz had G and C and Hevesy had T and TE, I think. But I could have it backwards.

Hevesy has put solid OL on the field forever.

If he isn't recruiting well, I hope we sort it out real damn quickly.

I note that Cowbell's recruiting has gone through the roof since they hired a new staff. Interpret that how you will.

There are records. Just look at the kids rivals/247 coaches pages. You're right about hev coaching them.

His OL coaching remains to be seen as I remember Meyer demoting him and The Daz coaching the OL as noted in several comments. Not to be a jerk but, most of you would be improvements over Summers and Davis.

That's what I took away from the McDowell piece. Apparently the kid was taken with Hev's *******ry because he can coach some line. It may be a commentary on the state of recruiting that kids are too impressed with their mad skills to consider that the resume might need some polish. If that sounds like an excuse, it is.

If the line don't work, don't nobody work. Getting quality people on it seems to have been an afterthought under the previous regime. If this staff doesn't correct it we're in for a bumpy ride. It sure looks like it would be easier to sell the sizzle in Gainesville than in Stark Vegas.

Donk, I love ya but you’re so full of sh!t your eyes are brown. MSU’s average rating per Rivals:

2010 - 2.92
2011 - 3.05
2012 - 3.04
2013 - 3.10
2014 - 2.79
2015 - 3.14
2016 - 3.14
2017 - 3
2018 - 3.22
2019 - 3.13

Hardly “through the roof”. Last year’s class finished nicely, for sure, but this year is trending right where Mullen had them towards the end of his time there. The new staff might very well be better recruiters but lets not pretend its a huge uptick. We’re talking hundredths of a point and still well below what Mullen is doing at UF.

Also, Florida was 3.78 last year and 3.54 so far this year - with some big fish out there that could bump this up. As far as quality, last year’s class was the highest rated since 2010 on Rivals. Looking back, 3.54 isn’t going to get it done buts its better than Mac and right around where Chump averaged. Since Meyer, the average has been between 3.5-3.68 except for two Mac years (~3.3, gross). What we need to do is get back to 3.8+ like Meyer pulled every year except his transition class. Not sure Mullen’s staff can do that but they can certainly exceed the last two guys.
