Let me add to the list: Chip Kelly's UCLA team lost to Cincinnati. That's right, the great amazing coach we were all excited for and then we failed to sign (for whatever reason) maybe isn't so great after all..
That's crazy. I don't think his heart is in the game and his recruiting effort is proof. It's as if he's not even trying and this loss is going to set him back. I'm seeing the light.

Both were great weekends. Why don't we just enjoy the last few days? Next weekend could be very different.

Well, IMHO it's not a subjective matter of perspective as much as I thought it was at first. I believe that objectively speaking, the Noles, Canes and Vols losing this weekend, in 2018, is sweeter than the Noles and Dawgs losing on the opening weekend of 2009.

I understand the "matter of perspective" viewpoint. I live in Miami and am surrounded by Cane fans. As anyone from Miami will tell you, even though the Gators don't consider the Canes big rivals anymore (since we rarely play them), the Caniacs are still obsessed with us. They're obnoxious AF with their incessant and over-the-top Gator hate.

So yes, from the perspective of me or any other Gator in Miami, the Canes are rivals in a way that they are not to Gators everywhere else.

That can affect people's viewpoints for sure. I think we both fall pretty close to the age at where there is a big argument over who Florida's biggest rival is. Usually when talking to fans younger than me they definitely lean to it being FSU while the fans older than me definitely lean to it being Georgia. Kind of like your Miami reasoning above (having to hear about it so much) I would probably take a Georgia loss over an FSU loss (as long as an SECCG appearance wasn't part of the calculation) if forced into that situation but its a really close call.

I know this is a minor thing, but I also like to add that Chip Kelly's Bruins lost this weekend too to a team they should have won against. While not rivals, it makes this weekend better just because the majority wanted him instead of Dan Mullen, and that game suggests we dodged a big bullet when Chipster turned us down.

Also, FSU is now tied for dead last in all of the FBS in points-per-game.
Even Charleston Southern scored twice as many points than they have this season

By the way not to continue this dumb argument but another thing, in 2009 we were ranked #1 going into the season and were considered national championship contenders. Favorites, in fact. So even though FSU and UGA losing is usually a cause for celebration, it was a little less so under those circumstances, because their losses to other teams negatively impacted our strength of schedule.

It doesn't help our strength of schedule this year either, but strength of schedule doesn't matter as much as it did then. Anyway we're obviously not ranked #1 and nobody's got us penciled in for the playoffs. Plus the Canes aren't on our schedule anyway. So seeing the Noles, Canes and Vols all lose on opening weekend is just pure, unadulterated joy with no asterisks or mitigating factors.

We got smoked by Bama in the SEC Championship game....if we wont that we would have gone to the Natty so their sucking had nothing to do with it

Respectfully disagree. UGA loss + FSU loss> Canes, Noles and Vols losses

It's celebration city for sure either way.

Let me know when all 5 lose in the same weekend so we can break out the '82 Veuve.

Well I don't know what book you're getting that from but I don't have to go by any book because I'm not just a Gator fan, I'm an actual Gator, twice over. My credentials are irrevocable. Anyway why are you picking an argument in this celebration thread? You seem salty. Fess up, did you bet on the Noles tonight or what? :scratchchin: lol

Out of curiosity, what is an "actual Gator, twice over"?

Seriously, I hate them both.

To the original point the OP was making: Hell yeah!!! And let us fervently pray for even larger doses of vindictive glee as the season rolls on. I'm hoping like crazy that UGA catches one where the sun don't shine this week. If the dwags go down and we take care of bidnez against KY jelly, I'm going to be one very happy old lizard.

Weekend results in FSU and UToothless both ranked in the bottom 25. For good measure, Chip-who-spurned-us has his team In the bottom 25 as well.

Digging a little more deeply into the actual significance of this weekend's action:

1. For the last 40 years or so, FSU has enjoyed tremendous stability at HC. Certainly, other schools had better coaches and teams for some period of time during that 4 decade stretch, but I can't think of any program that was more stable and consistently successful than the SOW during that period. After the shyt-show in Tally this weekend, I think it's safe to say that that particular reign of terror is in some considerable jeopardy. In my considered opinion, detestable though they were, Bobby and Jimbo were hyper-successful and both deserve a back-handed compliment for thriving in that sewer for so long. Taggart, on the other hand, appears to me to be a colossal momo, destined to reduce that program to a steaming pile of rubble. More power to him.

2. Tennessee is well into it's second decade of embarrassing futility, and Saturday's result served to illustrate two important points - they still suck, and there is every likelihood that they will continue to do so. Pruitt is a goober of monumental proportions, Tennessee is richly deserving of his gooberhood. The beat goes on.

3. If there is a more detestable shyt hole in America than the SOW, it is without a doubt scUM. Seeing Helen Hunt fall on her face in yet another big game was a delight to behold, and that doesn't even take into account the possible benefits to recruiting that a continued slide into the abyss in thug town could bring our way.

Not merely three very enjoyable disasters for three hated enemies, but great portends of miseries yet to come for three of the most despicable programs on the planet. Cheers and Go Gators!

blah blah blah lives in but hates Miami blah blah turnover chain is annoying blah blah will argue until red in face blah
Thoughtful post but... no, their pain in 2009 was sweeter to me and others - qualifying it as “perspective”. Those UGA tears were life sustaining, I tell you!
