That was CRAZY. I might be in the minority in thinking this, but I feel horrible for both Osaka and Serena. The judge had no business interjecting his ego into the game to that degree. If he is gonna dock Serena a full game in a Championship game for calling him a “thief”, I can’t imagine what he would have done to McEnroe if he berated him. Did Serena overreact a bit? Sure. But, you have to swallow your pride a bit as an official. Osaka played a great match and may have won anyway, but I think he was overly sensitive in this situation.
I can see that you might feel that way, but this is tennis. Suppose Mikelson gets a ruling he doesn't like. So he snaps a club over his knee and loudly calls the official a thief. Swallow his pride? No penalty?

I didn’t say she didn’t deserve a final warning, but you’re living in an alternate universe if you think it was the right move to dock her a full game in a Championship. Superstars always get a bit of leniency in these situations, let alone the greatest female tennis player of all time. She didn’t curse at him once. You think the ref gives a tech to Lebron in Game 7 of the Finals with 2 minute left for barking at him? Absolutely not.

She was asking for it. Getting her ass handed to her and she had a meltdown.

Maybe you skipped over. This was tennis, not the NBA. Tell me Mikelson wouldn't have been penalized according to the rules.

Her own design. Surely you realize that she is a brilliant designer.
I seriously don't know. Somebody told me that she was pissed about the clothing rules so she was purposely wearing the ugliest outfits she could get away with.

They were pulling your leg. The French open changed their dress code to prevent one of her creations being worn next year.

Not Serena’s first issue at the US Open.

McEnroe got ejected after three violations at the Australian Open.

Three characteristics in play: (1) gender--men aren't treated this way, (2) motherhood-- I teach my daughter the difference between right and wrong, and, (3) potentially race-- this happens to me every year at this tournament.
How the country responds to this through the media will say a lot about the country and these issues.
Oh, imo Serena's record and performance indicate that she is the women's GOAT. However, the young woman who beat her last night played with skill and steely determination such as I have never seen in women's tennis.

Of course it does. She’s a female monitory and now hasn’t the “mom” crowd, as well. Very few in the media would risk the social media backlash of calling her out for her boorish behavior.

Have only seen a few highlights. I’m specifically talking about the comments alluding to fact she’s a man and saying her game is in decline and comparing her to Kap.

Ok. I was watching it happen live and she was out of line. Appeared like she literally WANTED it to end and made a spectacle to evoke a response.

I’ve always been a fan, but she lost a ton of respect from me yesterday.

You’re misguided at best. She was giving it to the official like any male athlete would after a questionable decision in a Championship. Tennis or not, this is professional sports. Penalizing her for verbal abuse despite the fact that she never cursed at him is extremely weak. If you’re the GOAT, you are allowed to argue a call as long as you aren’t being lewd to the official. I’d understand if she were a first or second year pro, but she’s earned that right. As I said before, she was emotional, but don’t pretend like you wouldn’t be if you were playing for what would have been a historic victory.
