Video breakdowns: Franks struggles

He just takes a couple of plays here and looks at them and seems to think that is why we are rushing to the line many times and then taking our sweet time getting the play off - because the coaches don't trust Franks to do much.

Franks definitely doesn't have that field vision some QBs have that would see a RB was open for a play instead of throwing into double coverage etc. I think the only thing Franks has improved on much from last season is not running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage.

I started to reply to his running play analysis last night which I though was spotty showing he did not even see what plays were being run. This analysis is much better, but not perfect.

1. Overall I am not sure how much reading Franks is doing. He may not be given all the options to read the open man that the analyst is doing.

2. In the first play, I agree that Scarlett was open. I am less sure that Franks' read was bad. A safety arriving late does not mean the post was not open and a good confident throw would not have been a TD. Unfortunately Franks' throw was short and maybe a bit late.

3. On the second play, I also agree there were several open guys on the four man side. I again suspect that Franks was told to throw to the one man side to avoid throwing into congestion. Of course people see that on film and cover the four with 4 and the one man side with 2.

There exists in proven brain training programs to enhance tuning one's vision-center to alert to specific identifiers such as colors, shapes, etc. Some people develop this via naturally occurring biofeedback. UF's Brain Center has those programs, UF School of Optometry does too. Long ago, you may have taken a test to determine if your peripheral vision was normal = remember black screen with randomly appearing red dots on the periphery. That can crudely work to expand your recognition visual field. But PositScience.com has research developed video games that specifically train visual acuity.

It bothers me that Neanderstall coaches are not studious nor scientific about FB skills.

I’ve said this so many times my fingers are bleeding from typing it. LOTS of offenses at ALL levels run plays like this where they call a hard count to see what the defense is doing, then the coaches in the box make the appropriate play call. It’s beyond commonplace now. Sometimes I wonder if you guys watch any other football team besides the Gators.

I'm not surprised that he's struggling with reads and seeing the field. The question is will he improve in this area as the season goes on? Probably not, but if he does improve he could eventually live up to his physical potential and be a decent QB.

Poor O-line play isn't helping him develop. He needs some time and a running game to take pressure off of him. He's not mentally tough enough to carry that burden on his own.

I think the author made a good point, but he was clearly dumbing it down to be more understandable to people who don't watch and dissect a ton of game film IMO. You have a very good rebuttal in pointing out the additional nuances that weren't covered in the clip (why we had multiple routes over the middle, for instance)--but I think it's safe to say that your point and the author's point are fairly closely aligned: Franks just isn't making proper reads.

I don't think anyone advocating for Trask to get some minutes thinks he's the sure-fire solution. There really isn't a ton of film to go off of and it's completely understandable to think that it could be substantially worse, given Franks' superior athleticism and ability to escape the pocket on scrambles. The reason why many people want to see a different QB is because we've seen what Franks can do...and he's still wanting in many fundamental aspects of the game (as the author pointed out in this clip). If Trask's biggest strength was his ability in practice to make the right reads, then that's something our team needs right now. It isn't our only problem, to be fair, but it's a big one in terms of getting our offense to a point where we could be better.

I truly want to see Trash back there getting sacked every three plays and throwing interceptions every other series just to laugh at your stupid azzes.

You can always claim Trash, Provancha and Guy were the answers if we dont to see them. Its worth the laugh at this point.
Who was the transfer from Vandy that had played wr the year before that everyone was pining for when Treon was starting? Same situation

Im not even sure some of these people watch Gator football. Mullinz has always runs the merrkat offense... and he has never been a tempo guy.

QB is the problem, huh?

Just look at this. Watch it 5 times and focus on a different O lineman each time
It's worth another look.

I didn't watch much of the game. But what little I did, showed about the same from the OL on most plays. It was hard to find a play in which all five linemen actually did their job.

Against Kintucky.

sorry did not see the other thread

on the first play Franks either made a misread or he was way late on the throw-he also had Morral open

I think he just struggles with his progressions and is way late on way too many throws

either way I think it is time to get Trask some reps

The center missed his assignment clearly.

Sas is one of the top xs and Os guy.

Frankly all you "he is locking on to the receiver" guys, 80% of all.message board posts about any team about any QB, are hilarious sometimes.
