Plan still to redshirt Emory Jones despite surprise appearance

Mullen said:
"I guess the talk all week is one of the freshman quarterbacks is going to be in the game a lot," Mullen said. It was true, it was just ours. His numbers were better than their freshman quarterback (Justin Fields') numbers, so I'm proud of him."

I found that quote to be very interesting. Basically Mullen used the opportunity to show recruits that he will play Freshmen in big games with meaningful snaps, unlike how Fields was used against LSU. Jones was used with recruiting in mind.

It was not a big surprise to me, and unless I am not looking at it correct the pass was under thrown allowing the penalty to prevent it. He has a long way to go and I expect him to get some work while keeping his redshirt.

Well Mullen has had a problem recruiting QB so far, maybe it’ll rub off on the other positions of need we have.
He stole Leyer's QB last year and unlike most of the early class, that was Mullinz and not Seider.

I have no doubt that Mullen realizes that EJ is the best future option at this point. I applaud what he has done to get Franks where he is (although still limited). So I will trust that he will get EJ ready when we need him. I don't think anyone expected us to win the East this year. It was nice that we were in the conversation until yesterday.

Makes a lot of sense to me. Synchronize his maturation with needed additions on both sides of the ball.

Mullen has short-term and long-term goals. He's not about to sacrifice the latter.

""I thought he threw a pretty good deep ball in that situation right there to put it on him," Mullen said. "We'll see as the season goes on. The plan moving forward will probably be to redshirt him still, so we'll see how the rest of the season plays out. You never know.""

Title of that article doesn't really match what coach said to me ...

He has played in two (I believe) so he has two more to play in... I wouldn't doubt he will see action against FSU. Get him used to the environment.

I’m thinking he gets second half against Idaho and bowl game. Full bowl game prep and a few packages go wonders for next year.

I don't think the bowl game counts against the 4 games... but I'm not sure on that either.
