What is the reason for Mullen's perceived cap?

I think they should only count post season rankings.
Yeah, 2-2. Miss State is still ranked.

I agree it doesnt matter whether or not they were ranked in week 2 or 3.

Hell they told us the Clowndaddies were top 5 in September.

Forgot about Kentucky, I know I'm trying to... thanks Donk

I think we could hang with OSU but nana and Clemson are on another level right now. But taking everything in to consideration where we are right now is pretty amazing to me. We Could have beaten GA if not for imploding in two areas. You’re right about the UK game but we still could have won despite bad line play.

Tom we are in year one, there is no right or wrong about this hire yet... That's the problem so many are down on their knees praying to the alter, instead of stepping back and saying... it's year 1, there is at least 3 years until Mullen has gotten it to be his program. A lot of people were saying the same type of things including making excuses in 2015. Why can't we pump the brakes to see what we actually have.

We are all Gators wanting what is best for the program, and it seems the pumpers want to dismiss the concerns that are still valid on this hire. In 2020 is when we will truly know what we have.

Big picture, I agree. Way too early to conclude anything. But you can see some positives and there is nothing wrong with pointing that out. You can also see some negatives and there is nothing wrong with pointing that out either.

If you goal is to stop the pumpers, you have no chance. None.

If the pumpers want everyone to feel the sunshine, they have almost no chance either.

I guess, in the end, hardcore elements of both sides bother me. Lets just give it some time and enjoy the trip. Last year at this time, the season was over. I want to enjoy the next 4 weekends.

Doug, my comment was not aimed at you personally.

Sound advice. Too bad the people trying to apply some irrational “cap” on the man don’t heed it as well.

I didn't take them as aimed at me, but as a valid statement.

Not all people who see the positives are pumpers, hell there is a lot to be excited about. Mullen is the first good SEC quality coach we have since Meyer had his health episode. 2010 Meyer was a shell of the man he was previously. Muschamp a better CEO than coach, McElwian a schitty CEO. Mullen understands you need both, and that is refreshing.

I don't think there is a "cap", but valid concerns. I think the whole "cap" statement is more to drum up this conversation, than anything.

Where as UGA beat us, a lot of that was self inflicted. UK smashed us. 300 yards rushing is a beat down. The staff losing to UGA, which ran away from us in the 2nd half both figuratively and literally was depth. UK just punched us in the mouth, and instead of getting up off the mat we let them continue.

That’s fine, but based on the dogged exchanges of a few in here I fully believe they subscribe 100% to the notion.

Speaking for me alone, I have my concerns due to his history... but I'll gladly eat crow if he gets us a couple of SEC titles.

He's 2-1 against ranked teams this year. Does that count for anything?

He lost to UK and UGA so that's 0-2 right there. I have no clue what you're talking about. They don't count it like that. It's where they end up, fyi. Otherwise there would be nut jobs screaming about his 3 top ten wins in a row back in 2014. All three teams ended up 8-5 and unranked. They don't count. Sorry.

So a team beats you early in the season and then loses their QB. You now say they were no good when they played you?

Or a team has little depth and is playing walk-ons at the end of the year? They don't count?

No wonder you struggle .

He's 2-2 this year. He beat LSU and MSU and lost to UK and UGA. If any team falls out of the top 25...no it doesn't count anymore.
