You guys shoulda heard the Dwags defending him on the radio this afternoon. “I trust Kirby”, “our defense was gassed”, “I like the aggressive play call”, “we wouldn’t even be there if it wasn’t for Kirby”.
Dwags gonna Dwag.
What the followers said of Jim Jones.

Kirby says it was there.

Sports radio guys roasted Kirby today. Said that statement was Kirby’s way if throwing his players under the bus and deflecting blame from him. If they practiced it so much, why couldn’t they get the ball snapped quickly?, etc.

This is great. If he keeps this stuff up, he’ll lose the team sooner than later and trend downward.

Was at a Chanukah Menorah lighting event tonight. Several 50-something Dogs my wife grew up with were there (she went there, too). They still can't get over it, still can't come to grips with it. They can't get a good night's sleep. They've truly melted down. I should have told them, "yeah, but you're going to the SUGAR BOWL" but I didn't it. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to going to the Benz to see my Gators play Meechigan. The local Dogs don't like it that I'm excited over that, but after dwelling in the dumps since 2009, I think this is the beginning of something special in Gator Football.

All of Savannah's Dog nation is in a deep funk, ultimate angst. I love it. Couldn't have happened to a nicer fanbase!

Living deep in ugaly territory, I’m really happy for you! Your neighborhood must be unbearable when they win...

Its worse than that, its total BS. Ive watched that play at least 8 times from multiple angles. At no time prior to the teams lining up and prior to the snap of the ball was anyone for the dwags not covered, and at no time did alabama realize someone wasnt and move a player over to correct it. Both teams lined up, play clock wound down, and they snapped the ball; there was no shift or movement from either side. Hell, his narrative doesnt even make sense on the surface b/c they weren't in punt coverage, which is what he was alluding to when he said they've seen something on tape telling them someone is uncovered sometimes. They left their 3rd down defense out there and played total safe, didnt even had a dude way back to return. Smart is completely full of :kiffin: and anyone who has half a brain knows it. Fortunately enough for him, that leaves out 3/4ths of his fan base so he'll survive this one.

On the contrary, I heard an explanation today that gave me new appreciation for the brilliance of Coach Smart. A Georgia website reporter said the fact that it was 4th and 11 meant that no one would "expect" them to run the fake. Had it been something like 4th and 3, well, any average coach might have tried a fake. But since the odds were so high and the chance of success so low, well, only a genius would risk a fake there. It was the perfect time to take advantage of the element of surprise.

I confess to having not considered that the timing of this play call was actually a sterling example of the kind of exceptional coaching acumen UGA fans can expect to enjoy in the coming seasons.

No one would expect it except the other team who came out in a safe return to protect against a potential fake.

Exactly. Sounds good in theory until the defense basically rolls out a 4-3 and has a clear view of your athletically gifted back up QB lined up as a blocker.

The notion of going for it wasn’t egregious. He obviously felt they couldn’t stop them. The problem is once it was identified, by his own admission, he should’ve called a TO. If they know what’s coming, running your regular offense with a QB that was playing lights out is a lot more high percentage than putting the ball in the hands of a freshman on a poorly crafted gimmick.

I have said for a LONG time the perfect fake would be go up the line on fourth and 1 and try to make them jump off side (anywhere from the their 40 to the 50) . Then TAKE the five yard penalty. Then do the fake punt. They WOULD never see it coming.

Lol that’s a good one.

I always wanted to see them line up for the old “try to draw ‘em offsides” thing, and when it didn’t work have the qb turn and start walking back toward the bench like they are giving up on the play. After he takes a few steps, direct snap it to the running back.

I’ve seen that play a couple of times. Don’t recall which teams or college or pro. Didn’t work either time though I like the call.

That reminds me of Nuss last year in the Usce game. Zaire goes down and has to be helped off the field. We call a TO and so he's eligible for the next play. We send him out, limping, which was already somewhat of a shock. Then, just to defy the odds even further, we RUN him on a designed QB sweep.

All I could envision was Nuss saying, "they'll never see this coming."

Can't remember the game, but saw it happen once. The qb was yelling at the side line, as the ball was snapped.
