Good. I was worried he might end up at FSU or UT. Now they are having to go far down their lists for replacement coordinators.

A friend is telling me that UT is getting Kendal Briles as their OC. Articles are saying FSU is interviewing him. This just keeps getting better.

Speaking of Briles, have you guys seen his Wikipedia page lately? LOL

Kendal Briles (born November 10, 1982) is an American football coach. He is currently the offensive coordinatorand quarterbacks coach of the Florida State Seminoles football team and fondly known for his cameos in marvel movies as Stan Lee. He is also a full blown astronaut and pole dancing instructor on the side.

Briles played college football at the University of Texas at Austin and University of Houston as a quarterback, wide receiver and safety. His father, Art Briles, was his head coach at Houston.[1]

In 2008, Briles joined his father at Baylor University as inside receivers coach and offensive recruiting coordinator.[2] From 2012 to 2014 he served as Baylor's passing game coordinator, receivers coach and offensive recruiting coordinator. In 2015 Briles was promoted to offensive coordinator.[3] He was a 2015 finalist for the Broyles Award, given annually to the nation's top college football assistant coach.

In December 2016, FAU announced that Kendal Briles would be their new offensive coordinator. Head coach Lane Kiffin said Briles will be given "full control" over the offense, including play-calling duties.[4]

In January 2018, Briles became the new assistant head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach at his alma mater, the University of Houston.[5]

This is a good place for Freeze. He has a good relationship w/ the Admin at Liberty, they are a new D1 program, and he can win there (they've had a winning program for years - remember when Antwon Chiles transferred there?). He may very well end up back at a major program after 3 or 4 winning seasons (hell, Petrino spent one year at Western Kentucky before Louisville hired him back).

It's been said before, but this is one of the concerns about having a defensive minded head coach. Of course, there are exceptions, but the constant revolving door(Weis! No Pease! No Roper) isn't healthy for most head coaches. If you got to volnation, these poor schmucks are almost in as much panic mode as they were at this point last year looking for a head coach. And the funny part is, even if they'd landed him, how long do they really expect a former HC to be their OC? They'd be back in the hunt in less than 2 years, meaning that anyone that signed to play for him and his style would be left with whoever they get next.

Defense wins championships, but you have to offense. And you need to have continuity. With as many different schemes and mindsets as there are today, I think the offensive side of the ball is much more coordinator-sensitive. Guys like Itraz and others are much better at explaining the particular nuances of each scheme, but you can take a less than perfect fit at LB or DB and make it work. But having a pro-style QB and OL in more of an RPO scheme is a disaster--and the same if you have an athletic QB and OL forced into a traditional. So this up and down situation with their offense, and constant identity change, is going to cause problems for them in recruiting and player development just like it did with us.

If you reverse things, not one single person would be worried if Grantham, or the next DC went elsewhere.

I'm not the biggest fan of everything Mullen does, but I do like the fact that we have an identity based around his offensive mindset that will eventually be manned with all the right people. The situation in Knoxville shows just how bad the alternative often is.
