It's time for an expanded play-off.

I’ve said this for years:

Start the Season in August

Drop all non-D1 Games

6 Power Conferences with 16 Teams (96 total)

2 – 8 team divisions

6 Championship Games

4 at large teams play for 2 Wild Card spots.

That’s 8 Games between Wild Card and Championships

4 QTR Final Games

2 Semi Finals

1 Championship

That’s 15 Major TV Draws…Every Game COUNTS

It adds only one extra game.

And you can play tough games out of conference. Even if you lose, you still are in the hunt.

Your thoughts?

I like it. When do you propose the championship games to be played, keeping in mind these guys are going to have exams in December and camp in the spring?

My thoughts....leave it alone. It ain't broke. Nothing needs fixing. Just let it be. College football ain't NASCAR. We don't need to be going around changing and fixing things every damn year. Its worked fine the way it is since its inception. I see absolutely no reason to change it. None.

Conference Games as normal.

Playoffs - right after exams...funny FCS and D-2 make it work.

Or just have less bowls. Anything with some name recognition (Peach, Cotton, even smaller ones like the Liberty and Gator) should be kept. Anything that’s just an advertiser(Taxslayer, Belk, Meineke, etc) should be dropped. Bahamas Bowl? Boca Bowl? Get real.

The problem is there’s no pride in these games because virtually anyone can make them with 12 opportunities and modern day scheduling.

Expanding the playoff is just watering down something to offset something else already being watered down. Four teams is more than enough.

No, it helps to eliminate playing South Central Dakota Tech, it allows for good non-conference games at home and it gets rid of The Platex Tampon Bowl.

So we’re just throwing fantasy crap out there with no regard to how the business of college football works.
Alrighty then!

I really dont think it is as broken as everyone thinks it is. Keep all the meaningless bowls because they keep the universities happy with getting some sort of payday (I think). Who cares is a player sits out of the weedwacker bowl? Does it really matter? Only tweek I would make to the current system, or think is a viable option, maybe add two teams. Let #1 and #2 sit a week while #3 through #6 play each other to get into the playoff.

I like the idea of expanding the playoffs. As it stands now it is up to the subjective rankings of the CFP committee, and there are almost always teams left out that have a decent argument for being in.

I'd rather make sure all of the teams who should be in the playoffs are there, even if it means having a couple of teams in the playoffs who maybe don't belong. If they don't belong, they'll get washed out pretty early.

As ThreatMatrix mentioned, you'd have to overcome the challenges to the way the business of football works now in order to pull it off, which is why you'll see small, incremental changes instead of sweeping changes as mentioned in the OP.

The biggest benefit is the extra practice bowl teams are allowed. There is a small financial benefit to the conference as well. That's a bigger deal for the non-P5 conferences than for the P5

I see no reason to eliminate those lesser bowls. It's win-win-win for the bowls, the teams, and their fan bases. Though an expanded playoff using the bowl system would make more of the bowl games meaningful to the masses.

Really?

Tell us how it works because for the last 50+ years it's been changing almost yearly.

And please explain how the NCAA makes any business sense?

I am not trying to be ugly. The NCAA is whacked, Bowls are out of hand, the Play-off System as it is today has solved nothing.

But heck...you are right because I don't know how anyone knows how the system works.

I actually think the system now is working. It is intended to get the best 2 teams matched up for a Natty Game. Honestly, I don't think we really need a playoff this year: we should just skip the first two games and let Clemson and Bama play for it.

Also,

6 power conferences with 16 teams gives you 96 teams...That is plenty.

It keeps teams like UCF from claiming NC.

Let the Big 10 become the Big 16 and pick-up teams like ND...You want in? You play in a Power Conference.
