My daughter has been involved in competitive gymnastics for several years, so we have watched Simone Biles and USA gymnastics for a long time. We have also been to at least one Gator gymnastics meet each of the last several seasons. It's really a great sport (although the judging sometimes puzzles me and pisses me off), and the Gator meets are fun with a great atmosphere. And, yes, Simone Biles is an amazing athlete who just might be the greatest gymnast of all time.

A good book to read as a parent of a gymnast is Little Girls in Pretty Boxes. It is written by a UF alum, Joan Ryan.

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked at the wikipedia summary you linked and, yes, some girls train way too much and some parents are just flat out crazy (course that goes for parents of kids in any sport these days). My wife and I have no delusions of grandeur for our daughter. She enjoys it and it's made her strong, powerful, agile, coordinated, and well conditioned. So as long as she can handle her school work and practices and still is having fun, we're ok with it. We've told our daughter that as soon as it's no longer fun, that she can switch to any other sport she'd like to try. And we shopped around gyms to find one with practice hours that weren't ridiculous and methods that aren't detrimental to her long term health. So far, so good....

You are a good parent and your daughter is lucky to have you and your wife as her champion.

So when I was a freshman at UF I dated this girl that was into gymnastics. Really flexible, you know?

So she talks me into going to a gymnastics meet. Being a man I (of course) had never been to one of these events before. I went to football games. So, you know, I thought it was kinda the same idea.

I started booing and yelling "Gator Bait!" as the the other team entered the arena. I yelled really loud during their performances. You know, like I was trying to get them to jump offsides. Then I busted out the little air horn for the balance beam part.

How the fcuk was I supposed to know that sort of behavior was frowned upon??? Thank God I snuck in a baggie of bourbon or that meet would have been entirely unwatchable.

Anyone actually look at that ridiculous list? That might be the stupidest GOAT of GOATs list ever. In just about every single sport, there are obvious GOATs replaced with the decent players listed. Where is Jordan? Where is Gretzky? ... and so on. Mahomes?????? Has he even finished a single season yet?

PS ... no clue about gymnastics nor pretend to

Gymnastics isn’t even a sport. It’s a stunt. Like juggling.

Per the great George Carlin

Gymnastics is not a sport because Romanians are good at it. It took me a long time to come up with that rule, but goddammit, I did it

Here is a full list from Carlin on what is a sport and what is not. Funny read.

Read about George Carlin's views on sports

Soccer. Soccer is not a sport because you can't use your arms. Anything where you can't use your arms can't be a sport. Tap dancing isn't a sport. I rest my case.

If it works out, the Gators currently have 4 of the 8 national team members coming in the next two years. Trinity Thomas is a freshman this year and next would be Morgan Hurd and Riley McCusker followed by Shilese Jones.

And btw here is her floor from the world championship. She is doing tumbling passes that even the men cannot connect on! Even with stepping out she crushed her nearest competitor by 15 points! Thats like a swimmer winning the gold by more than 30 secs on a sprint.

And yes, I have a daughter that does high level competition. It is some serious athletic ability.
