I agree. Sorta like race car driving. Hell, I drive every day.
Right, but rather than getting graded on whether you drove better than somebody else, all you have to do is get there faster than he does while he's trying to get there faster than you.

Yeah, like driving on I-285.

Anyone actually look at that ridiculous list? That might be the stupidest GOAT of GOATs list ever. In just about every single sport, there are obvious GOATs replaced with the decent players listed. Where is Jordan? Where is Gretzky? ... and so on. Mahomes?????? Has he even finished a single season yet?

PS ... no clue about gymnastics nor pretend to

The list is the greatest athletes of 2018. Not ever...

If you “get there faster than he does”, wouldn’t that mean “you drove better”?

Asking for a non-racing friend.

You really can’t grasp the difference between an objective goal like finishing first or getting a ball over a line, and a subjective goal like doing the best cartwheel?

Zambo is a racer, and you got his hackles up. What he does requires absolutely no skill, but we humor him to make him feel good.

It's like the luge - sending a spectator down against their will would result in the same approximate times. All those turds are doing is just hanging on.

So when I was a freshman at UF I dated this girl that was into gymnastics. Really flexible, you know?

So she talks me into going to a gymnastics meet. Being a man I (of course) had never been to one of these events before. I went to football games. So, you know, I thought it was kinda the same idea.

I started booing and yelling "Gator Bait!" as the the other team entered the arena. I yelled really loud during their performances. You know, like I was trying to get them to jump offsides. Then I busted out the little air horn for the balance beam part.

How the fcuk was I supposed to know that sort of behavior was frowned upon??? Thank God I snuck in a baggie of bourbon or that meet would have been entirely unwatchable.

Alex.

It doesn’t have to be car racing. It could be a foot race like Usain Bolt. There are no style points awarded. First one to the finish line wins. It doesn’t get any more objective than that.

So you’re saying whoever has the best shoes wins the foot race?

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked at the wikipedia summary you linked and, yes, some girls train way too much and some parents are just flat out crazy (course that goes for parents of kids in any sport these days). My wife and I have no delusions of grandeur for our daughter. She enjoys it and it's made her strong, powerful, agile, coordinated, and well conditioned. So as long as she can handle her school work and practices and still is having fun, we're ok with it. We've told our daughter that as soon as it's no longer fun, that she can switch to any other sport she'd like to try. And we shopped around gyms to find one with practice hours that weren't ridiculous and methods that aren't detrimental to her long term health. So far, so good....

Your experience is similar to mine. My daughter is 16. For about 8 years she was in competitive gymnastics. Qualified and went to the state championships every year in Florida. Finished high a couple years. We never had Olympic dreams. Some parents did. Or hopes for a college scholarship. Some did. That isn't what it's about for us. It was about her having fun and learning lessons.

She learned many great things from the experience. Including time management to get her class work completed. At peak, it was 5 days of practice a week. 24 hours a week. Lots of weekend trips to competitions.

She went to high school and left it behind. We weren't disappointed.

When I watch woman's gymnastics, I spend way too much time thinking how flexible the are.

The gymnastics program, and all other non-revenue producing “sports” for that matter, are simply a drain on the finances of the football program and aren’t worthy of anyone’s attention and they should be forced to practice and play at PK Yonge High school.

It took me months to teach him this. I learned it in weeks.

But you caught two balls hurdling a fence.

Well, you'll be pleased to know, as a sport, the luge is going downhill.
