I just don't think Dan Mullen is nearly as sold on Franks as you guys seem to think. If Kyle Trask doesn't break his foot, Franks gets benched. Let's get real - would Dan Mullen have ever recruited Franks? Of course not, because he's not a fit for the offense.

I think EJ has the leg up leading into the Spring, not Franks. Mullen wants to give him the job, EJ just has to perform.

If EJ has a leg up, then why didn't he play more in this game? With all the prep for the game, he only got like 4 snaps when the game was in doubt.

"Most vilified player ever" - GTFO. Exaggerate much?

And he didn't respond to "internet warriors", he told his OWN FANS in his OWN STADIUM to STFU, someone none of us had ever seen before. It's indefensible, yet I have a feeling you'll defend it.

All the proof you need is to read these comments on the day he leads us to a NY6 bowl victory and is named Most Outstanding Player. The hate is real.

Yeah, I don’t agree with that. Word, as early as February, was that Franks was bulking up to get himself ready to play a new styles of football—to which he didn’t sign on to play. He had to hear all offseason that virtually every QB both on the roster and within 1000 miles of UF campus was better suited and should be played over him. He was commended after week 1, with immediate qualifying statements about him having a ceiling and, again, just biding time for someone better. Even players on other teams’ rosters were pined over to comeback in and replace him every time a transfer was hinted. On and on. All of this for a Soph, and from fans who ironically consider his coach for the first two years to be arguably UF’s worst coach in history.

No one is denying he had bad moments. Some completely terrible. But even in his worst moments the guy seemed to care more and fight harder than any QB we’ve had since Tebow. And he was basically assigned the 3 losses, despite the fact that the entire team played like garbage for most of those contests.

It was only then that he started getting mouthy and adversarial with the fans. I don’t agree with his approach, but I don’t see it as some unilateral decision to be a prick.

Boom....direct hit. Excellent!

This. And people forget he is a sophomore. Mostly I blame the casual fans who think tue offense is 80% QB. They just dont know better.

Of course that doesnt explain the people who rag on FF but worshipped dumbazz Driskel, the laziest QB we ve ever had, no doubt, and a guy who produced half as much as FF.

Look, I thought EJ would overtake him this year quickly. It didnt happen. Mullinz has given EJ a few snaps and almost no throws. It doesnt suggest that Mullinz is anywhere close to trusting him. I truly expected a couple of series in first half and maybe all of the fourth quarter if we were blowing them out. Again... it didnt happen. No matter what I think, Mullinz thinks it isnt close.

More importantly, why the hell arent we celebrating two blowout wins to finish the season?

Well stated, counselor.

Trask was never gonna start the next game

Mullin was being coy but everything he has said lends itself to the idea he was trying to build FF’s confidence...not tear it down. Although FF would start I did believe that Trask would get a series or two and that the hook would be quick if FF struggled as he did against Missouri. I thought that was the perfect approach and that Trask had earned it.

I have no clue if Jones can lead us to championships. Have not seen enough. But i have seen enough of Franks to know he is serviceable but will have to learn to pass better to be great. It is possible to like Franks but not be sure about him. But we won 10 games with him and he improved during the year. Hard for him not to be the clear favorite to start.

Jones would have to be close to perfect this spring to take ove.

Franks audibled into his 1st half TD run. That tells me a lot about his ability to read a defense. Nonetheless, EJ is in the mold of a QB that Dan wants running his show. We'll see.

FF continues to get better. As he becomes a better runner he will become more effective even passing. I havent seen enough of EJ to know how good he is...or isn't. He isn't a terribly big guy. Nice touch throw but not a gun, best I can tell.

This seems like a perfect situation for Jalen Hurts to come into for a year, but nobody has mentioned UF on his radar. He seems like a good fit for a Mullen offense.

I think we are in a good place for a long time with FF, EJ, JJ and Richardson. We are building for a good long run.
Couldn't agree more. So nice to be back in the mix. Its a fine line between good and great. We were good this year. Will be nice to spend the next 8 months talking about how we get to great.

Nice post! It's worth noting that the Gators have gone 82-29 their last two games against teams that beat us badly each of the last two seasons.

Frank's will develop even more between now and first game next year. EJ has not made the slightest inroads into leadership, so that is why he was never left in longer. Okay, let EJ outdo Frank's in competition. EJ will be a solid backup. While bias judgements are speculated on EJ's superior running, Franks, against a solid opponent, runs for about as many yards gained as Perrine, credited as one of the best backs in the SEC -- NFL caliber.?? If the EJ speculators had their way, EJ would have gotten the bulk of the playing time after Mizzou. And from that tenuous
favoritism we'd have scored more than 30 per game thereafter. Franks can step aside, if EJ or JJ generate more yards, more sustained drives, more TDs, etc. in their auditions.

Next year will only be Franks' second year with coaching. I completely discount years with Butters. I expect him to come out next year seeing the field and the game far better and not missing the open guy. He can run, he's absolutely huge, and he's shown us flashes of a pretty good QB. One thing was clear last night - the team believes in him. That's going to be hard to beat.

This is a quarterback-centric offense.
I think you're too anxious to assume something that might not necessarily be true. A lot of people on this board WILL NOT be satisfied until we have a QB who throws 50 plus passes a game, every game, and puts up 400 ypg passing....what a travesty that is when it come to CONSISTLY winning football games in our conference....Until the defense is retooled and given a slight upgrade in depth playing that way would be suicide.....This will be an offense based on the sum of it's equal parts....3 or 4 quality RB's, 3-4 quality WR's, a couple of good TE's, a deep and powerful offensive line, and a QB who can tie it all together and occasionally stand out on his own by running when he needs to and effectively passing when needed...Franks is getting better at all those things and rarely turns the ball over....

The quarterback-centric reference is actually a nod to the read option and the additional responsibilities put on the quarterback as a result.

I have no delusions about the number of passes Mullen will call nor the number of pass plays needed for us to be successful. It's a run-first offense. I would, however, like to see us take better advantage of the passing opportunities that Mullen creates. I think this could become one helluva football team if it does.
