The question Miami fans have to ask themselves:

"Is this like when we promoted DC Randy Shannon or when we hired Temple's coach Al Golden?"

With this to go down so quickly within 24 hours, this has been brewing for a while. Uncle Luke will more than likely go all out thug on this. I guess the coCanes were good with this continuity hire being that Rev. Richt kept them so stable. scUM is going to be down for a while.

It's not like Temple has to worry about hurting a recruiting class, because I think they get most of their players by scouting kids playing flag football at local parks. Getting 4 million bucks for 3 weeks of Diaz has to be like a Godsend to them.

Diaz coached for Mullen twice - leaving for Texas and Miami jobs after one year. I wonder how amicable the parting was the second time. Might add some spice to the game.

I'd forgotten that he'd been fired mid-season by Mack Brown: How a Texas-sized failure helped reboot Manny Diaz's career

Key quote: "That’s what occurred in 2012-13 at Texas. After a successful first year with the Longhorns in 2011, Diaz’s 2012 defense ranked among the worst in school history. The next season, Mack Brown fired Diaz two weeks into the season after the Longhorns surrendered a school-record 550 rushing yards to BYU. At the end of that season, Brown resigned."

This is a disaster and it is glorious. Miami's defense got exposed against every decent team they played with Diaz in charge. Miami now has to hire someone to fix the offense and do it on a budget because they just paid $4 million to grab a guy who had never coached a down of the school he was going to. Their situation just got so much worse.

hes a good recruiter, but obviously he was going to temple to sow his oats and learn how to be a hbc. now he has to learn on a huge stage. with a 1000xs more pressure and critics

I'd actually be shocked if any Philadelphia resident cared one bit yesterday, if they even follow close enough to know. Wouldn't be completely surprised if they didn't even know Collins was gone.

This is spot on. In many respects, it's probably a bad move for Diaz and his career. The most proven formula is get your start somewhere small, make your mistakes, get a pass because of where you're at, learn from it, and apply that knowledge to a bigger stage where you won't be given that pass.

And as has been discussed, a defensive minded HC will usually only go as far as his OC can take him, which means they'll see a revolving door on a near annual basis either due to firing or promotion elsewhere.

So it's not a terrible hire. But history says it likely won't end well. Even if he's HC material, it will probably only be discovered years from now when he's at another job.

Miami raids the vaunted Temple coaching well once again. They'll be back.

In 2050.

Zero point zero zero chance Campbell is happy about this hire. More of the same at Duh-U. He wanted Butch or Lane - aka -- more offense. He is not happy.
