This whole thread can be divided into two camps:

1. Those who grade based on the situation coming into where we were as a program.

2. People that are holding the team to an unchanging standard about winning titles regardless of the state of the program.

Funny enough, those in camp #2 were the same ones giving 8-4 ceilings (with a probable 6-6/7-5 record) on the team and now downgrade because we weren’t 11-1 with a sole loss to UGA.

Although I understand both sides of the equation, it is interesting seeing the dichotomy.

#2 -- Kids who grew up on Spurrier and Meyer. Great times but certainly not representative of the entire picture.

Those 80’s teams don’t get enough love. It was a damn good time. Not to mention the best ever SEC championship party in ‘84.
If in some random parallel universe I was a talented coach and I ended up at UF I’d stick 84 up on the wall and put the “first in the sec” titles back up. It was a shame they were ever taken down to begin with.

I get not claiming titles when you get 1 or two publications. BUT 22?????? The same exact amount as BYU? Claim the thing

Every new season there is a new chase for a new championship that only one team can win. UF is becoming one of those chasers. Each year we get to watch our Gators do their best. Good naturedly, we get to fuss about screw-ups.
Better, we get to celebrate. Still, it is an annual striving and most the time all teams fall short.

Mullen took a 4 win team with 6 win talent and won 10 games, a NY6 bowl, slaughtered FSU and Tennessee on the road, 2 top 10 wins, introduced a real s&c program, began to dominate the LOS at times, and genuinely made football fun again at Florida? How is that anything other than an A? You have to be delusional to grade this team against a national championship standard in 2018.

Can't wait for the trip to Lexington next year... that is an absolute must-do road trip.

Nice wins over LSU and Michigan - check

A win over one of your 2 big rivals - check

Finally found some offense and a good running game - check

Get crushed in your homecoming game - check

Lose 2 games at home protecting the Swamp - check

Lose to a team that hasn't beat you in over 30 years - check

Come in 3rd in your own division - check
Geez man this is ridiculous based on the circumstances of this season.

I don’t understand the mentality of those in camp #2. This was a rebuilding season and we finished in the top 10. That is remarkable any way you slice it. There were going to be some bumps along the way.

Just a year ago, these same players were under the control of the worst coaching staff ever assembled. Again, remarkable.

Some of us grew up with Hall, Spurrier, Meyer... the very point Spurrier came in to change the culture and expectations. But the same people who agreed with him are also some of the same people who lowered the bar on this season. We want to get back to the Gator Way, but without the Gator Expectations?

That's huge. I remember a question asked in a thread here last year to the effect of what offense ranking posters would be satisfied with after Dan's first year. I don't remember anyone answering with a ranking higher than the mid-40's.
I said 20s. I give him a B- pending signing day. I don't grade on a curve.

I have t given much thought to the coaching carousel this offseason, but having brought KY to a magical season - for them - does Stoops get snapped up by another program?

None of those things are good and when you look at them collectively it seems like the season should have been a complete disaster....On the other hand 3 years ago...
We won the SEC East

Beat 2 out of 3 rivals

Won our Homecoming game

Had one of the worst offenses in CFB

Had a future superstar kicked off the team wrongfully

Scored 2 points, yes 2 points against the Clowns at home

And were beaten so badly in Orlando(pretty much home game) by Michigan that they put a waterboy in uniform to score the last TD.....

Yet both were 10 win seasons.....I certainly feel alot better about this 10 win season than that one.

Have you ever heard that clown's name in the mix for another job? 'Nuff said.

The guy sucks, but he's as good as they are going to get.

It is an absolute miracle that Butters won 10 games at UF. I still can't believe it.
