It says he's applying for immediate eligibility based on the racial slur hurled at him, despite not even hearing it.
Who didn't see that coming a mile away.

I saw that Fields was going to apply for a hardship to play immediately, but did not know on what basis so I came here. I figured the coach he committed to is still there, there is no investigation that we know of, no probation that we know of, no family issues that would send him to the state of Ohio, etc. And I read here about some BS reason. Give me a break. If he does not have to sit out 1 year, then you can kiss the transfer rule goodbye!!!!!

He’ll gain immediate eligibility. You honestly think the NCAA is gonna deny his claim of a “hostile environment”? Not in this day and age!
Maybe the NCAA should publish a list of derogatory epithets that could be used without resulting in immediate eligibility elsewhere. Or they could make a rule that any player that has ever been insulted is immediately eligible wherever they want to go.

why do people say this?

this has zero bearing on an NCAA waiver.

I know it has no bearing Law, I was simply stating what could have been the obvious BS reasons for why a player might claim hardship. I was making up facetious examples. The "I have a hardship excuse" is getting lame

Because a drunk baseball player yelled the N word during the game with Tenn.

It says he's applying for immediate eligibility based on the racial slur hurled at him, despite not even hearing it.
Who didn't see that coming a mile away.

So Fields decides to transfer to a program where the position coaches use the N word. Classic!

Neither Georgia nor the NCAA wants to touch that subject with a 10-foot pole.

Allow my jaded mind to wander over the implications. High-profile athlete is recruited, doesn't start right away, grows impatient, sabotages the situation by planting a racist shill who complies and makes possible for said high-profile athlete to get an immediate waiver of transfer.

I'm not saying Fields did that, but what about the possibility of it happening down the road?

The system is setting itself up for a highly transient student-athlete population. Here today, gone tomorrow.

This just in >> "During UGa's last 3 games Justin Fields' momma was seen yelling the N-word epithet at him." Hey, that's racial and family hardships.

Bringing in a transfer is a kick to the throat like your steady girl saying she wants to date around. I could understand Martell feeling the fire to show up his disloyal school elsewhere.

It will be interesting to see how the NCAA lawyers carefully parse his waiver if he gets one. They aren't going to want to say no, but they aren't going to want to see this become a thing. After all, what if it hadn't been a UGA student/athlete, but just some drunk ass fan? Would that carry the same weight? If the answer is yes, i can see lots of guys getting shills to call them offensive names.

Could they grant a waiver for Fields on the specific grounds that he's a black athlete who was called a "n--", then deny such a waiver for a white athlete who was called a "cracker"? The possibilities go on and on.

Edit: Watch for the claim for a waiver to be analogous to a hostile work environment claim under employment law.

Article from ESPN claims Fields attorney (Tom Mars who assisted the players who left Ole Miss last year) is going to try to get a waiver so he can play this year, but that the waiver was not based on anything currently out in public:

"Mars said he was confident that Fields had a good case to play in 2019, but not for the reasons others have projected.

"Nobody who's on social media would have a problem with Justin getting a waiver if they knew the whole story,' Mars told ESPN last week."

Common lawyer rhetoric/posturing or is there something else going on in Athens?

What does the future hold for Ohio State at QB?
