OX loves controversial posts so at the risk of being slammed with “Drunk” and “Face Palms”

Can you name a Modern Elite Academic School that is a consistent Elite Football Program?

Then name a program that can maintain that status without LARGE Alumni?

Alumni help more than just football.

UF is going to to do with the rise to 5 and Mullen.

Define Elite

How about Michigan. But they don't really fit the without large alumni requirement.

I think it's much easier for basketball to do that than football because of the money it takes to run an elite program.

What’s elite? Right now, only Bama and Clemson fit that description IMO.

Is Michigan Academically Elite? That's not what comes to mind when I think of Academics. And according to Chatter...I doubt many think Big Blue is still Football Elite.

I say this because the more a school pushes "Academic Elite" the more the Alumini Changes and so does Booster support.

If they are being honest with their academic elitism, then no. Because they would force the football players to have 1350+ SAT scores.

To MJm’s point, what do you do sides elite?

Stanford and Meatchicken do a damn good job at it.

Hell, Vanderbilt’s doing a good job at both right now.

Historically, many great academic institutions have had really good college basketball programs.

Depends on .your definition of elite. Most of the academically elite schools are private, and don't emphasize athletics to the extent that public schools do.

That said, one can be an elite *public* school and have an elite football program. It's harder, but not impossible.

And of those schools the only 2 that i'd say are football elite are UF and Mich. And is 3 NC over a lifetime Elite?

Now think about this...How many years has UF been Academically Elite...Not good but Elite?

I am confused?

When we broght in Mullen I read a lot of posts stating UF was not an Elite Football Program. We had slipped. And were we Elite (Academically) when SOS was coaching?

Power 5 does not = Elite Football

Vandy is Power 5 as is GT.

And here is STAT for you...UGA's standards for incoming FR is now HIGHER than GT.

I didn't say that Power 5 = elite. It is generally necessary for being considered "elite" overall, though (except for special snowflake ND).

My point was that the only 2 academically and athletically elite public schools were also the only 2 academically elite public schools in the top 10 of athletic department funding.

I live in Ga. and have heard of kids getting into Tech, but not Ugh. That never used to happen. BTW - good joke about Tech. It's a STEM school where guys out number gals. So the gals like to say: "The odds are good, but the goods are odd."
