The only thing I can think of is that he probably wouldn't get to call plays for ARZ.
Sounds like an awesome job to me. When the offense sucks, you can blame the head coach. Basically, you are getting a seven-figure job to sit in meetings a couple of times a week. And no recruiting.

I think maybe this is a bridge too far. There's no doubt Mullen worked a miracle with Franks but he is still a liability at times. That first half against Meatchicken was evidence of that as was UGA and Mizzo. There were plenty of times when the scheme got the Gators in a position to make big plays and Franks didn't see it, saw it late, or couldn't hit the guy with the pass.

I'm hopeful that Franks hasn't hit his ceiling, and I'm also hopeful that if he has Emory Jones can run the offense efficiently; but those are unknowns. That said, you'd be hard pressed to convince me that QB isn't our biggest issue on offense and probably the team. Line play consistently got better through the year and it looks like we are loading up with big bodies. Running back is loaded and could get even better if MAR joins as the Percy-type hybrid. TE is solid and this group of receivers has a chance to be special.
I'm not making the claim that Franks was great. Just that he's not the biggest concern. Unless you have a top flight QB, you're always going to want better. Maybe you're living in the past if you think QB is our biggest concern. Have you seen what's returning on the defense? Offensive line? Linebackers? Safeties? At worst, Qb is the 4th most concerning position group. And that's not considering the Dline. Which may be the worst. Our Qb room is fairly stable.

Well that's good. There is a reason why QBs are typically the highest paid player on any NFL roster. I think they might have a better feel for the situation than a dude on a message board. Just saying. So does the W-L record. When Franks wasn't terrible (even if he wasn't very good) - Florida won. When he was terrible, Florida lost. I don't care who else is on your roster you're not winning the game when your QB turns in the 27.3 QBR stinker Franks did against Missouri. He was on his way to the pine before two star Trask had fate step in on his ankle. What about this situation tells you it still is not the biggest question mark? He played okay at FSU and Meatchicken but we are a long way from okay with the engine that makes the offense go. As for the room, we've got Franks and guys that have no significant playing time against SEC teams. There is literally no position group you can say that about.

As for the rest:
Safety we are thin - due to the guys behind our starters being terrible and no apparent talent coming in this year, unless Steele moves to safety; but at least they've seen action thanks to our starters being boneheads. Linebacker? Assuming Black signs that position may have legit SEC talent for the first time since Davis and Anzalone left campus. Joseph staying could have helped make this group better early on, but the guys we've got coming in are much, much better than what we have on campus now and Black could probably play day one. The concern with DL is not next year - it's that we appear to be missing on SDEs and DTs this year in the cycle. We've got guys with quality playing time returning and you can expect guys like Langhman and Carter (both in the top 15 at their position) to play more of a role this year.

Yeah, went back and looked at it and he did get an offer right away didn't he? Didn't exactly light it up in Atlanta. Pretty baffling that a stinker of a performance like that landed him another NFL offer and one of the highest profile jobs in college football.

I wont write Saban's obit until he goes 8-4. That said here's hoping the "Process" goes into the dumpster. Short of bad health or death, I wish him nothing but the worst.

I was never a believer in the "we need a QB" theory. We're UF. No one can convince me that every QB we recruited sucked. Yet even lower tiered schools didn't seem to have a problem. I think Mullen has debunked that notion. Last year we were still blaming the QB. Mullen comes in and voila, the QB is fixed. Suddenly, QB isn't our biggest concern anymore. If we're being real, we have to realize that we haven't had a properly developed QB since Mullen left after '08.

Having crappy assistants will doom a program a lot faster than most realize. In hindsight, think of what great coaching staff we had during that stretch; Urban, Strong, Mullen, Quinn. That's insane when you think about it.

Well he did work wonders with Franks but I consider him substandard as a passer still especially down the field. If we had a good passing QB with our running game now that would really put defenses on their heels with the receivers we have.

As far as pre-Mullen we did have 2 good ones but they both left - Cam and Grier.

Just to clarify, Quinn was a Muschamp hire.

Mightn't y'all be missing it with this Sotkisian hire = now Saban needs a "troubles I've seen" drinking buddy. Could be a booze-bonus hidden there.?

Is Saban still the coach at Alabama? I thought so. As long as that is the case I doubt the ship will sink. Indians come and go, but if the Chief remains so will the tribe. Plenty of Gopher's and Doc's and Isaac's, but as long as Captain Stubbing was there, the Love Boat continued to sail!!!!!!
