If you need more proof that we have a coaching problem, read White’s comments in today’s article in The Sun. Our fourth year coach admits that he has no idea how to motivate his team and get them to care enough to win. Wow! Why not do the right thing and resign instead of taking money for nothing? I have an idea he can try.......How about letting the “unmotivated” players watch a few games to see if they want to continue to be part of the team? What is the worst thing that could happen? We lose a few games........

Agreed ... Something ain't getting done and White is the one not doing it. White is declaring that he doesn't have any workable idea how to instruct winning plays into a team manned by three experience scorers, Allen, Hudson, Stone, joined by experienced Hayes and some excitingly skilled newcomers = Locke, K. Johnson, Bassett, Nembhard, etc. I don't think there is a single observer here that would continue to let Hudson keep diminishing this whole team effort? That would be terrible coaching.

I'm wondering is White's mind plagued by personal life problems muddling his BBall thinking, focus? Actually, this group should be a fairly joyful winning team.?? Certainly a team that when it gets 10 point leads, it goes on to win.??

Or, what if all through this season, "inside-game" coach Pinkins has pushed "we gotta have decent inside play to compete" but White rejects that with his far-shot training. He cannot now turn to any Pinkin's style. Lose face. Now that stretch-span of thinking is crossing the bridge into McEldumb = fake coach? Will he announce death threats next? Oblivious to what ain't working, teaching thru practice how to dive for loose balls? have they been diving wrong - all of them? fake coaching.

The Jalen Hudson situation perfectly illustrates the problem. Why he continues to get major minutes is beyond me. He has always been a selfish player that refuses to truly engage on the defensive end and now he cannot make a shot either yet he still plays 25+ minutes each game. Until Mr Hudson decides to play real defense he should sit. What message do you send the team when they watch film and they see that many of the points the opponent scores are due to the need to constantly help on his man? White not only continues to play him but purposely puts him in the game at crunch time. Please don’t misunderstand my attitude, I want nothing more than for this team turn it around but I am struggling to see how that will happen given the situation.

On target, DGDad. White seems to have no capacity for bravery = benching Hudson, giving more practice training to better per-minute performers to become permanent contributors. From preseason to season's outset, White should have pressured "insiders' coach" Pinkins to shove into improved-play all 6'8" or taller forwards. Hayes 6'8" 227lbs, ,... Stokes 6'8" 270 lbs ... Bassett 6'9" 237 lbs ... Stone 6'8" 253 lbs ?? Stone & Bassett have a decent shooting touch. No way coaching cannot relentlessly train that crew into aggressive inside scoring bunch. White is not relentless about developing skills neglected skills. These kids come here to develop the skills to become a better, more rounded player. But White says he doesn't know what to do? If we had a 15% to 25% improving developing inside game would our W-L be 10-4 maybe. Once we got a 10 point lead our 65% inside shooters could maintain a winning lead. But nooo, White's got "big-man" trainer Pickins teaching 'em how to dive, go-low to the floor.

For some unseen reasons, White falls behind 10 other SEC coaches in coaching ability. UF has not collected athletes who cannot keep up with 10 opposing SEC teams.?? Next year, with those young 5*s will White win a little better, getting 50-60% of their potential out of them -- maybe start them right off diving for loose balls? Say we keep those 5* commits, then it seems obvious their talents White will squander if he doesn't coach a more useful inside/outside attack. Also, our big men getting defensive rebounds is a major part of defensive effectiveness.

Noticed USCe is leading the SEC at 3-0.
Versus us, inside Silva shot 5/6, 83%, that's 1 miss = then because he went for the rim he added 8/9 FTs!
Adhering to White's philosophy, Locke shot 31%, 5/16 from 3, that's 11 missed shots. That's prolly 11 turnovers?
Frank Martin has a sub .500 team that he is improving their play, by focusing on the high % inside shots.

I have to say, I think White is a coach that knows what he is doing on the court, but he absolutely can not recruit. He won when he got here, off of Billy's recruits. We have made the big tournament, But now it's mostly his players and we can't do ****e, he can't recruit, plain and simple

But, but, but Gatorman many folks here said that Billy’s players all sucked Those folks don’t post much on basketball threads anymore. I wonder why?

CMW = CWM

He had a great year 2 but it’s been a steady decline ever since. He can recruit but he’s in way over his head. He can coach D but his offense is anemic. Sound familiar?

I’m sure Stricklin has a short list. Listen to some of the crap when White is miked up and look at end of game coaching.

We are absolutely terrible on offense coming out of time outs. That’s coaching. The game he was mic’d up, vs USCe I think, I never saw him draw up a play in the huddle. All he was doing was giving pep talks. Towards the end of that game, the game was tight and getting late. He called a TO only to see Nembhard take the inbound, dance around the 3 pt line and then take a horrible shot. Not a single pass... out of a TO... at the end of a tight game.

That tells me he didn’t draw anything up. What’s the point of calling a TO at the end of a game, when we absolutely need a bucket? To give a pep talk?

When Billy called TO’s at the end of games, he’d immediately grab the clipboard and start drawing up a specific play. I never see white do that.

And didn’t he use the press in his first year? Where is it now? We never press off a made bucket. We do that slow press to make the opponent take time off the shot clock. But that stifling, fast paced press that Billy employed, and white continued initially... is gone.

We could have Rick Pitino right now, which would immediately have us back ranked and a perennial top 10 team after. I’m joking... sort of. No chance stricklin goes after him. But he would win and win quickly. I honestly don’t care if we go after a young hot up and comer. Billy was one. But the next coach needs to be a slam dunk. We can’t whiff on back to back coaches like we did in football.

When Foley hired White, he said one of the reasons was because he ran a similar system to Billy D. Foley must have not actually watched any of White's coaching.
he really said that? Seriously? More proof Foley is a total bafoon. Just talks out his ass with zero actual knowledge or understanding of what he's saying.

Motion, ball screen and pick and roll is apparently the same as garbage dribble drive.

Geez, GJ, those are stark evidences of faltering coaching. If it's 3 years' record then this 4th year will make his record even worse. Seen this honest way, we can hire better, can't we?

We have 15 regular season games left. We play 5 teams that are currently ranked so that is 5 losses there most likely. We also have road games @UGA, Vandy, TCU, and LSU so those are most likely losses. We have home games vs UGA, Vandy, TAM, and Mizzou so those could be 4 wins. We also have LSU at home but they currently are 13-3 and 3-0 in the SEC so that is most likely a loss too. Looks like we will finish the season 4-11 and finish with a 13-18 record and bow out in the first round of the SECT and a 13-19 final record. I don't see White surviving that with this "talent" on this roster. Should be at minimum a 20 win season. This team and coach just doesn't happen so its just time to move on and Fire Mike White. Great guy but just not ready for big time SEC coaching. So now we focus on our coaching search and short list. Who do we target for the resurrection of Florida Basketball?

Mike White will be the coach next year, I have no doubt. As bad as this year has been, his success over the first 3 years will get him a pass, especially with the freshmen on this year's team plus the signees coming in for next season. But starting next year he will definitely be on the hot seat.
