I think the biggest key for him is how can he manage the OL issues. Depending what he does with the defensive staff we should be OK on D.. we have talent there though thin at LB. The OL is by far the biggest concern... that needs to be his focus in recruiting. Getting some OL, LB and WR. One thing I would like to see that we haven't had under Muschamp is players with elite speed. With Meyer we had a track team on offense... I think speed is key to winning and we lack the 4.3 guys that can break the big play.

Im on the fence with this guy. That said i will support him until we are given a good reason not to.
By nost accounts he appears to be a solid guy and coach abd indeed improves the product just about everywhere he goes.
Seems like he could be a players coach but much smarter offensively than WM was.
Looking at some of the scores though, csu doesnt appear all that great on defense, so if he succeeds here it will be because he brings in a solid defensive coordinator.
While he soesnt come across as a flashy guy, he does seem like a guy the players can rally around, and that will hopefully limit those who otherwise might jump ship.
He also seems like a guy that if he succeeds, we could be able to hang onto for a long time, in otherwords he isnt going to leave us high and dry in a few years.
For bow, i like the hire more than i dont, and i hope he does well in gainesville!

^ They lost that game to Air Force 27-24. So if you're implying that's what we have to look forward to I hope you're wrong.

I am a show me guy. After Foley bombing out on picking coaches I am skeptical on coaches that are not home-runs. He experimented with Zook and Muschamp didnt work out so I think people have to be realistic. We will see if Foley actually picks him.

It's fine to be a show me guy, but you aren't being that... you are being a "he sucks guy". A show me guy wouldn't say this is a bad hire... he would say I am going to wait and see.

I think in reality we all know that no hire will be proven until the guy starts coaching and either winning or losing games. It's going to be a couple years before we really know anything about this hire. So maybe keep an open mind... you say you are a positive person... why not look at the positives of this hire?

Foley hired Urban. Was that a bomb?

Same here, I want the guy to succeed because that means our team succeeds and everyone is happy; however, I am holding my judgement on him till I see what he does in compiling his staff, recruiting, and the on the field product.

Dude, you can forget that. No matter how many times you post how that whole thing transpired and what role Foley played, this crowd will never and I mean NEVER give Foley any credit for the Urban Meyer hire.

It's cherry picking. Blame for bad hires and give someone else credit when a homerun was hit. I know football makes the world go around but all he hits is homers in the other sports for the most part.

I compare it to picking Lebron James or Andrew Luck first overall. No offense but any of us could've picked him.

Picking him and closing him are two different things.

Everybody always says that because Machen was from Utah, but I guarantee you that if Foley really didn't like Meyer or want him it wouldn't happen. Machen probably had some influence and Foley researched and agreed. It's not like it took a brain surgeon to find Meyer... he was easily the hottest coach out there and it was between us and Notre Dame and Foley got him to pick UF... and yes.. that was Foley because Foley was going to be his boss...

Let's take this a step further... while Meyer was a good HC from a on the field perspective... he lowered the national perception of UF with the off the field problems his players had and when he left... he left a dumster fire and broken program. So yes, he got us two NC, but he is also part of the reason we are in the situation we are in. Muschamp was not good enough to get us out of that hole and he takes the majority of the blame, but Meyer dug the hole.

Bottom line is that there is no such thing as a guarantee hire... even if we got Chip Kelly... it wouldn't be a guarantee... so just sit back... and let's see what the guy does before we roast him.

I really can't complain about the hire. He performed at Alabama and has coached at several big time programs.CSU was 3-9 the year before his arrival. In his 3 years he's gone 4-8, 8-6, 10-2. I'd say that's pretty significant improvement. Also, his offense appears to be pretty fluid, meaning he is pretty adept at molding an offense to his players. It will be interesting to see how he coaches around a lousy OLine, but we'll see soon enough.

The more I learn, the more I like the hire... I think this might be a perfect fit...
