We beat Bama with a change in how and where our shot attempts came from - driving layups and jumps from the 60+% spots inside the worshipped 32% 3-line. White should drill them over and over in this attacking style. This style is what allows K.Johnson to activate his "quick-jump" talents. Nembhard played his best game using this style.
Can practices done in this balanced-style be what these guys needed all along?

Aggressive passing was a big offensive key in the game. Those long passes down the court before the defense was set and then whipping the ball around created openings for our players we haven't had.

We actually made 54% of our shots as opposed to our typical 35%. We were more fluid on offense and had more movement and passes and it worked to great success. It was a game that we "made our shots!" Go Gators!!

Exactly, UF has 4 quick jump guys in Johnson, Allen, Hudson and Ballard all who can get their own pull up shot driving to the basket if White wants to play this non motion style UF has played this year. It is a matter of finding out which of those 3 players is hitting that type of shot and Hayes and Locke can get shots off the driving action. Nembhard can drive too and score some but is often looking for open guys at the rim or at the arc.

The problem is that HC of the Florida Gators basketball team is not the place to be learning.

This is my position completely. I don’t dispute that White is learning and improving and I am obviously hopeful that his progression continues. I just never understood why we hired a “coach in training “ for a job at an established program when the other teams in the SEC went for proven winners. Maybe White really gets it going which would be great we just shouldn’t have had to wait 4-5 years

Foley had a habit of hiring young seemingly up and coming guys on the cheap. It's what happens when you get a bean counter for an AD.

I think the cheap part might not be the issue. Up and coming guys are the types of guys the AD get a lot of credit for discovering. I suspect rather than saving money, Foley was interested in adding to Foley's reputation he imagines he had as the best AD ever.

I wish White was developing faster, but don't think older coaches who have been fired somewhere else don't present their own kind of risks.

Gotta reiterate what this team accomplished vs Bama. Gators hit 21-31 2pt FGs ... that is 67.7%, That towards the rim style added 11-14 FTs (doubting 3-pt shooters drew fouls). Behind the 3-pt arc we hit 6-19. = 31.5%.
That "picture" testifies why the "inside-game" is more important to develop than any major reliance on the 3-pt shot.

We do need to remember it WAS Alabama, Wednesday night will be a much better measuring stick. I think we can pull it off. LSU is not all that physical so we should be able to play a similar game as we did Saturday.

A good coach adapts his game plan for the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent. Did you expect us to go inside a lot against Kentucky and Tennessee?

We ain't beating LSU or Kentucky. We haven't beat a good team all year. The absolute best we can do is beat the teams we should beat and hope we have a decent draw in the sec tournament. We want to avoid Kentucky LSU Tennessee and Auburn in the first 2 rounds if we want to have a snowballs chance in hell at making the NCAA tournament.

While true we haven’t really beaten a good team, we do play great defense. Hopefully we can catch fire in one of the UK or LSU games and steal one.

Don't get your hopes up. Those 2 are hitting their stride. Both have too much firepower for us. LSU might be the best team in the conference right now.

LSU did just struggle at UGA. I don’t expect to beat them at their place but if we get hot at home (see Butler or Ole Miss games), we have a chance.

Yes. If we don't, we let them relegate us to shoot from 32% arc, while they take 65% shots inside. Adapting should be figuring out how to battle with each opposing team. We've all watched us burn clock, not moving the ball inward, just pretend to play basketball 'til it's throw it up time. That's not battling.

We were 13-11 as an outside shooting team. We went inside the arc in a game we were underdogs in and we won by 18. And it is the Gator team that plays that more inside game that has resurrected the idea that we just might make the Dance. What would this team be like, if we were playing & practicing toward a balance of # of shots inside with the # of shots behind the arc? I'm thinking we would be 17-8 instead of 14-11. Inevitably, I don't think we've had battling type coaching.

Wish I could give this one million likes. Describes Foley perfectly. "Discovered" one Billy D, a young up-and-coming coach in a money sport, when there was no risk because Kruger burned the program to the ground as he was leaving. UF had no history of winning in basketball (I believe 4 total tourney appearances prior to Billy D) so if Donovan didn't work out there was minimal risk. As we now know Billy quickly became UF's best BB coach ever and maintained that lofty performance throughout his tenure. Foley tried this tactic repeatedly thereafter in the money sports (Zook, Muschump, Hee Haw, White) while ironically going after the highest regarded and best coaches in the money-draining Olympic sports which we have dominated. A very strange method of recruitment, but I guess if you save a mil or 2 on a money sport coach you can use that to buy the best lacrosse, softball, swimming, track, tennis, and golf coaches. And in the strange world of All Sport Trophies and great ADs all these sports are equal to football and men's basketball.

Just a quick up date:

Today (Monday night) UF rankings are:

KenPom: 29

NCAA NET: 33

I would guess if UF can take those rankings into selection Sunday, UF will get a bid.

We are 1-9 against top 50 RPI teams and only 4-11 against top 100 RPI teams. If we don't win tonight we will probably have to win our next 4 games after that to get in the tournament. The 3 games before LSU at home aren't going to help us much but a loss to any of them would probably shut the door on us.
