This weekend the Gators hosts scrotUM for a 3 game set at the Mac. After sweeping a below average Long Beach State team, the bats have been silent midweek and we were bytch slapped by both USF and UNF, respectively. I presume there will be a good crowd b/c it is scrotUM, but we need the bats to get going. I don;t know much about scrotUM baseball this year other than I believe they have a new coach.

Miami is 4-0 after sweeping Rutgers over the weekend 19-3, 7-1, 9-3 and beating FAU 11-4 last night. Their weekend starters are all junior righties. The Gators have owned Miami of late, but if UF doesn't get their bats going it will be a long weekend. Not only are the freshmen struggling at the plate, are veterans are at well. The only home run after 5 games is a solo shot by Jud Fabian. Langworthy has been anemic in the leadoff spot and after opening night Wil Dalton has done nothing in the cleanup role. Same with Brady Smith. Brady McConnell leads the team in batting and he's just over .300. Even Maldanado has not been up to par. The infield has struggled as well and Smith has been very sloppy behind the plate. It's very early and lots of new pieces to the puzzle this year for Florida, but there's a lot of room for improvement.

No reason to panic as of yet. Only 5 games in and still 51 more regular season games to go. Its a long season and more improvements and streaks to be had. Its a young rosters so there are going to be some bumps and bruises along the way. Enjoy the ride and wins if you can. Go Gators!!

I can't believe there aint "FireSully" thread around here.
That ain't gonna happen. Florida has won more games this decade than any other D1 program. He recruits great, develops players and wins a lot of games and will do so with this year's team.

A friend of mine sarcastically proposed that last night.

I’ll be there Sunday. Looking forward to seeing the freshman. Sully ain’t skeered to throw them to the wolves that’s for sure.

Yeah there were MULTIPLE people saying Sully should be fired halfway through the SEC play in 2017. The results?? We got hot and tore through everyone INCLUDING his haters and WON the CWS! Go Gators!!

Another below average performance in all facets for the 3rd game in a row. Still can't hit a lick, butchering simple, routine plays in the field. and so so pitching. Dyson struggled in his 4 innings and 90 or so pitches, causing us to go to the bullpen early. Hard to say if this team will be any good, but looks like some talent is there, but right now the team is not good. Lots of work to do, but scrotUM is clearly improved from the past 2 seasons. Would like us to play a clean game and let the chips fall where they may.

Seems it would have been more fun to play this game in the Swamp with some weird dimensions, short porches in left and right and a deep center field, while hearing sounds of construction on the football all in one at the prior sight of the baseball stadium. But hey, thats just me.

Our team batting average after 6 games is .195. Only McConnell and Calilao are above .300 at .333 each. Maldanado is at .200, Reese at .250, Dalton at .143, Langworthy at .130, Acton at .143, Fabian .150, Smith at .083. That's horrible, but has to get better. Too much talent to be hitting that porrly.

Wow, really hope this is the turning point for the season. The Gators have gone crazy in the late innings of this game and went from likely going down 2 games in this series and having lost 4 in a row, to opening up a big lead. Now 9 to 3 in the bottom of the 8th. Seems we may be finding some confidence that will hopefully carry forward through the season.

Finally the bats came alive and the beat Miami 9-3, scoring 1 in the 6th, 4 in the 7th and 4 in the 8th.

Here's hoping this is the start of a more consistent team after a big and important come from behind victory. Scoreless thru 5, scrotUM mounted a 2 out rally in the 6th culminated by a 3 run homer off Mace. Mace was good going 7 innings, but needs to cut down on the walks. But he appears to be on track to be the Friday nite starter (IMO) before conference play begins. Trailing 3-0 and the bats still silent, we scratched a run in the 6th and then exploded for 4 runs in both the 7th and 8th to seal a much needed victory. Finally some good swings by the some guys who had been ice cold and better defense helped us look like a better team tonite. Would be big if we can win the series tomorrow. BTW, the place was packed and that was good to see!
